Downs Arrive In Tunisia For Grudge CAF Clash

19/Jun/2017 05:23

Mamelodi Sundowns have arrived in Tunisia determined to change their fortunes around when they take on Tunisian Giants Esperance in the reverse fixture of their CAF Champions League campaign.

And one player who is looking to make his return is Anthony Laffor, who endured the pain of watching his side go down to the Tunisian Giants from the grandstand due to injury, with the pain aggravated by the late referees optional time penalty which gave the Tunisians all three points.

The Liberian believes that his side can overcome the North Africans.

“Look, we are here to win. We have to win to get to the summit of our log. We are not here to draw,” the Liberian said in an interview at the weekend on arrival.

The sides meet on Wednesday, and the return of Laffor to the side is a welcome development.

“I watched our game against them in Atteridgeville. They are technically well structured, but we are confident that we can break through. This was clear from the number of chances we had, so we hope that on Wednesday we will use the opportunities,” Laffor said.

He does not believe Esperance are extraordinary, but they will take the game respecting them.

Sundowns are currently third on the log following their loss and the draw against St George, who they next meet away.

Sundowns took on Esperance with a host of injured players on the stand. “But we have a big enough squad, and we certainly do not want to be knocked out so early in the campaign. In football, there are bound to be injuries, so this should not be an excuse.”

“I am happy to be back and fit. I am ready to play. I have achieved a great deal with Sundowns, but there is still much to achieve. I am still not satisfied with my achievements so far.”

“For now, our focus is on Wednesday’s game, and then we will look at the next game.”

Sundowns will still be without talisman Khama Billiat, but Wayne Arendse and Motjeka Madisha were back in training following injuries which impacted heavily on the team’s defensive capabilities.

But inspirational captain Hlompho Kekana will be back to patch up the midfield and assist in attack, and also back is Tiyani “Sugar” Mabunda, who has had some game time with Bafana Bafana together with Tebogo Langerman, Themba Zwane and Percy Tau.

Why did Teko Modise not travel with the team

    • Dalom says:

The team hasn’t exercised their option on his contract yet. I guess the technical team thought he won’t be fully focused. We did the same with Rama last year.

  6. Mike says:

We behind you all the way Masandawana, you can do it.All the best yellow nation.

  7. Dalom says:

I’m happy that we have some of our players back from the injuries and Zakri will also be available for selection. Those Tunisians just want players who’ll run at them and Zakri & Billiat would’ve fitted the bill.

  8. X man says:

  11. Sledge says:

I also feel that we need some fresh blood in our team, promote Makgalwe and Shozi and bring back Mahachi to replace Dolly on the left side. We also need to rejuvenate our defence by buying Coetzee to partner Madisha.

  13. sundowns my question is what have learn from club workshop in japan last december? Please show us what you have learned there please. Amen

  14. Senzwa says:

I don’t think Esparance will attack us tomorrow despite playing at home. They have the points and they will be more cautious and try to counter us. We must also be careful and try not to lose the match. A point will be satisfactory away as our last two games are winnable. My take…

    • Sam-4-Downz says:

Esperance will attack, believe it!!! They are not a defensive side, they always want to play to win, as you saw for yourself in attrgeville. This game will be won by a better prepared team between the two teams, with a little bit of lady of course.

  15. Romario says:

We should make Ntshangase the black leopards player our priority signing for the new season! The boy is brilliant, he keeps it simple and reads the game very well. He’s that Good!!! he reminds of teko modise, when he was still playing for supersport. we should also get manyama and coetzee, No need to bring in many players, we good for now!

  16. Dave M says:

We let Zungu left for free and his current team is going to cash up big time, that should never ever happen and I like how our managements is acting swiftly and fast with those optional year and if Modise falls within the same category lets not him leave for free we looked after him, lets extend that option and decide whether we keep him or we loan him in that way those teams who like free agents can wait for another year. we could use him for any contract negotiation with the player of our own interest as well.
