Sundowns Clinch Rivaldo

01/Sep/2017 01:29

Mamelodi Sundowns have bolstered their defence with the acquisition of Bafana Bafana Centre Back Rivaldo Coetzee on a five-year contract from Ajax Cape Town.

The 20-year-old comes with a wealth of experience that betrays his age with three years on the international scene as a Bafana player. Coetzee broke a 15-year-old record that was held by Aaron Mokoena for the youngest player to ever represent Bafana when he started in Pointe-Noire against Congo-Brazzaville in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at 17 years and 361 days.

Coetzee has two Cosafa Cup titles he won with the national Under-17 team and the senior national team. Add an appearance at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro last year and you have a player who is at home in the international scene. Those traits make him a perfect fit at the home of the reigning CAF Champions League and CAF Super Cup winners.

While Coetzee heads north from the Mother City, Mario Booysen will go the opposite direction to join Ajax Cape Town on a permanent move.

I think we must concentrate on developing our own players because it seems opposition teams are no longer interested in selling their players to us.When Downs wants the player the price rise sky high,Manyama and Brockie were supposed to come us but their respecting teams refused even though the players said that and by requesting to go to Downs.

How can you denied a player who wants to make money out of football because soccer is a short career, even Tinkler who refused Brockie to go now jumped the ship at Cape Town City within a year instead of completing his contract and moved to Supersport United because of money not loyalty, there’s no such nowadays it doesn’t bring food on the table ask Neymar.

Even Stanley Mathews he left PSL before he completes his contract and go back to S.United because of money.I know teams are there to compete but they mustn’t punish players and players of today they want to play in Champions League that’s where they want to test their strength. Manyama was ship out to Turkey because of Downs not because they care about his career. Kby forever.

Regarding the opposition teams not releasing players to Sundowns, you are spot on Member , I can’t put it in better words than you.Spot on Member! These people are suffering to “Small team mentality” and they are jealousy and in the process they frustrate their players who want greener pastures. Its even worse for them to think that they compete with Sundowns, who are they after all, because we Only compete with Pirates and Chiefs, and it will remain like that. With few trophies in their cabinet they are now big headed as to say they don’t sell to their competitors. Mnxim Small team mentality.

  4. Stephen Sandawana Modimolle says:

Welcome to the African Champs Riva, hope you will stabilize our leaking and old looking defense, all the best for the rest of the stay at DOWNS, Amen

  5. muzi kunene says:

Even the same Rivaldo we just signed now was supposed to go to Celtic but he failed the medicals they refused to give us in the first place, these white chairmen Comitis,Mathews and Fereira of Wits are jealous of Downs especially to our President.

Pls Downs this is a lesson from now on lets groom our own in abundance and forget about buying expensive players from other teams. Kby forever

    • Yellow boss says:

Those teams are 100% right .At Sundowns we do have good players on our development but,our technical team does not believe on development for an example Dolly was on our development team and we had to buy him back.

  6. Romario says:

Welcome Rivaldo all the best, we got the best defender in the country we should be proud and stop complaining…

  7. Skhu says:

I concur with u Romario our fellow fans are always complaining. Let welcome this good player and commend our management for acquiring such a talented young player. Welcome Rivaldo I wish you all the best.

  8. kulakk says:

  9. Kagiso Jafta says:

That’s great Downs, now that’s quality at its best. Welcome home Rivaldo, from Kakamas to the promised land. You are a good player and make use of the opportunity.

  10. Bucks says:

Welcome to the Downs family boy. Hope you will flourish in the Downs colors and help the team win matches. On the other hand I am asking myself as to why did we sign when the medical tests picked something wrong on his feet. I hope this will not affect his progress and fitting into our system. Is it because we are just an African PSL league? I wonder.
But anyway all the best ntwana.

  11. Boitumelo says:

Our next match must be a 5 – 0 victory. The team is strong.

  12. Mxo says:

    Good signing dankie mr pitso

  13. That’s what I m tking about !!! Welcome to the home champions boy. This is what we call a BEST BUY

  14. Tinkler , Hunt , & Comitis must go and jump into d Lake

  15. Boitumelo Mathatho says:

Welcome home Riva. I am happy our new signees are below 21 years. Sibanyoni is our next Phi Masinga and i hope they promote him in future. Our coaches at the development side are doing a good job. I share a sentiment with those saying lets develop our own players and cut the costs.

  16. Well, GOOD signing, No doubt, but who will be his perfect partner? Madisha seems to be mistake prone this days,Samaouro is not good enough, Nancimento is perfect partner unfortunately is injured. Rivaldo will surely add value. Welcome to the home of champions boy.

  17. ayanda says:

Welcome Rivaldo, Well done Masandawana for signing him, we can’t complain now , ours is to support Riva, at least he is better than many of our Central Defenders. RIVA AND ARENDSE will make a good pairing at the back, there will be no problem of speed. Mr COOL as well can be drafted in before the rest of other central defenders.

  18. ayanda says:

One other think I like about Riva, Mr Cool and Arendse, they can score goals from free kicks and corners, unlike the rest, and they will surely profit from the clinical crosses free, and corners kicks that LEBESE usually whips.

  19. Downs says:

The potential Madisha and Riva combo makes me excited

  20. collen says:

A good buy indeed for as long as it doesn’t derail Madisha’s development. Madisha might be commiting school boy errors now but in a season or two i forsee a great player. We should have loaned out Soumahoro and Zakri just to clear the foreign space.

Riva,Madisha,Tau,Morena,Mukumela,Magalwa,Sekotlong,Mohomi Vs Nthethe,Arendse,Nacimento,Langa,Keke,Sugar,Manyisa,Lebese,Onyango ,Billiat,Castro,Zwane(my favourite player) { future vs Experience} . Our team is well balanced now.

Welcome to the home of champions Riva. Here we don’t celebrate mediocrity but excellence. KBY

  21. Senzwa says:

Madisha is 22 and Rivaldo 20. Morena is also 22 or 23. Percy Tau still 23 and two new youngsters just been promoted. Morena is also in his early twenties. The average age of our squad is slowly but surely dropping which is good news for the future of the team. Big up to the technical team and management.

  22. Jackie Thandikaya Koti says:

welcome home Rivaldo we love you and thank you to my team for bringing this young man and my opinion is good but our coach is exposing them by playing wing backs not left and right backs then our centre backs cover the sides if we can using back four properly look at Marizburg’s braven fransman he is slowly but his advantage his not going to the to cover for a left back

  24. Welcome Rivaldo Sky is the Limit wish u all the best….

  25. mtho4downs says:

Welcome home Champ and wish you all the best Skyzen,,,,,,,

  26. mtho4downs says:

@Senzwa I concur your sentiment dawana

  27. ZIZI Mananga says:

Welcome home Riva just you jacket off and feel at home you are mixed with champions now,I would also want to agree with my fellow Brazilians when they say we need to be serious in developing our own players because there’s an element of jealous out there when we show interest in certain players their chairmen always make sure that we don’t get the players we want, look for example in Villa’ s case we wanted him while he was fresh and on top of his game his refused trying to sell him overseas when that fail they sold him to us with a hefty price.Kaboyeeeeeeellllooo

  28. SwaziBoy says:

HAPPY INDEED Masandawana with the arrival of Riva – we have been calling for a center back and management responded; hats off to you guys and congrats to Riva for joining the Champions. Welcome boy and same goes for our promoted youngsters.

We only ask for hard work and commitment boys – the rest will follow. From the look of our squad – we are totally balanced now to compete successfully. There is depth (quality & quantity), experience (seniors), hunger (youngsters). What and who can stop us from reclaiming our league????????

  29. mashasha says:

Welcome home Mr.We will support you.Kaboyelloooo

  30. xman says:

Our window shopping is not that good bcz we have so many central defenders we are going to get more game time complaints from ntenthe, arendse, mukwakwa, Nascimento, Madisha, coetze , soumahuru but nevertheless yu are a good signing after failing to celtic.

  31. Ernest says:

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our team for all the effects they made to try to buy players like big Brockie from Supersport, Mahlambi from wits, Aubrey Ngoma, Manyama from Cape Town City, but because of those greedy owners we failed the attempt although the players in question were willing to join the Champs of Africa. Why keep unhappy players who submitted their request to move on? Thanks to Ajax for letting Riva Coetzee to join us. Welcome boy to the Sandawana family.

  32. Sledge says:

Welcome home Rivaldo Coetzee. Thank u so very much to our Management and technical staff for buying this young talented experienced player and for promoting Makgalwa and Mukumela. Well done Ka Bo Yellow Nation
