Sundowns U-17 Come Back From Behind To Snatch Draw19/Aug/2016 07:32
Mamelodi Sundowns U-17 powered to a 2 – 2 draw with BK Hacken, twice coming from behind to show character in their final group game in the U-17 Gothia Cup – and ending top of the final log of the group with 13 points at Gothia Park, China.
Sundowns take on Kinetic Academy who ended second on the log with 10 points, in the final Group A play-off. Sundowns beat Kinetic 2 – 0 in their Group fixture in their first game of the tournament. As expected, BK Hacken came at Sundowns from kick-off, and went for the jugular in what was a game to redeem themselves after drawing three of their other fixtures.
As early as the 10th minute, Hacken went ahead to draw a line in the sand. But Godfrey Sapula’s side were not about to be intimidated – they fought back gallantly and in the 24th minute, Siyabonga Sila found the equaliser to bring his side right back into the game. The two sides fought mostly in the middle of the park, and as the interval drew closer, BK Hacken came close several times. Late into referee’s optional time, Sundowns were caught relaxing and took the lead once more to bring the interval score to 2 – 1.
A pep-talk by the technical team saw the young Brazilians come out fighting, but it was not until the 58th minute that they were successful – Cassius Mailula netting what turned out to be a crucial equaliser. BK Hacken held on, keeping the marauding Sundowns, who had beaten Hongyun 10 – 0 (goals scored by Thapelo Mokomele (2), Cassius Mailula (2), Notha Ngcobo, Musa Mdlhuli, Boitumelo Pheko, Thabo Moloisane, Promise Mkhuma and Likhanyile Ndlendle) the previous day in their penultimate group game, at bay, and the final whistle came with the two sides still locked at 2 – 2.
