Mamelodi Sundowns were crowned kings of the Gauteng 2013 Engen U-17 Tournament after beating the School Of Exellence 1-0 in the final, played on Sunday at the Markspark grounds, Johannesburg.

The youngsters, coached by Godfrey Sapula clinched the final, courtesy of a beautiful long range scorcher in the first half by Thawing Chuene. Both sides played beautiful entertaining football, but while Downs could not find the second goal, they made sure that they do not concede either.

In the group stages, The Brazilians were held to two goalless draws by Supersport United and Soweto Select respectively, before thrashing Sabela Super Stars 5-0 to qualify for the next round.

In the quarterfinals Sundowns were then pitted against Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Ba Style showed their intentions early in the match, going ahead early in the first half through a Mpumelelo Hlatshwayo goal.

Chiefs equalized in the second half but Sundowns had other ideas, as Katelgo Babile clinched the match for The Brazilians with five minutes to go.

The spectators were treated to yet another Tshwane Derby in the semifinals, as Sundowns locked horns with the University Of Pretoria. Sundowns won that match 5-4 on penalties to go through to the final.
