Head Coach Pitso Mosimane has said that he expects a tough challenge ahead of this weekend’s CAF Champions League Group C clash against Wydad Casablanca.
Downs’ squad strength will be put to the test in the busy December period as they prepare to compete in three competitions: the CAF Champions League, the ABSA Premiership, and the Telkom Knockout Final on December 14.
“We have big games now, we are going to Casablanca, then Algeria, we play the final [Telkom Knockout] then Wits [ABSA Premiership]. Those are big games, [and] we need our soldiers back.”
Downs have faced Wydad eight times since 2017 with Wydad having the slight advantage with four wins while Downs have won twice with two games being drawn.
Downs are yet to taste victory away from home in this fixture but Coach Pitso remains optimistic about his chances this weekend in Morocco:
“It’s a big one, I just cannot crack it there. It’s tough there, we haven’t won or drawn against them there. We will try again.”
“Maybe this time we can do it. They are stubborn, it’s the Champions League [which] they know how to play and they are very experienced. If you win away against this team you’ve done yourself a big job.”
Masandawana will leave on Monday to travel to Morocco for their upcoming clash on Saturday, after which they will return home to prepare for a tough week featuring the rescheduled midweek ABSA Premiership fixture against Stellenbosch FC and the Telkom Knockout Final against Maritzburg United on December 14.
the only thing I would like to see at Sundowns is our team learning to play compact football game like European teams play – where the are no gaps between the lines – whether we are defending or attacking defence midfield and attack is always compact and close to each other .we are not that bad but if we can try we can close the gap between us and our North African teams who are close to Europe bcoz they play compact football as well .
What i want from our team is the come back spirit. Being behind by 3 goals or 2 goals to nil doesn’t mean that we lost the game…we must fight for victory same as European football style
I am always looking online for ideas that can help me.
Thank you!
