Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies are gearing up for their 21st game of the Hollywoodbets Super League as they square off against the University of Johannesburg (UJ) Ladies this weekend.
Before traveling to the United States to play in the prestigious Women’s Cup, the Brazilians secured a thrilling 3-2 win over Copperbelt Ladies. Thato Letsoso believes that the trip was an important learning curve for the team.
“The experience highlighted areas where we need to grow as a team. Facing such high-caliber opponents pushed us out of our comfort zone and that is exactly what we needed to elevate our game. We are more determined than ever to apply what we have learned, refine our strategies and work even harder. This journey has brought us closer as a team and we are ready to take on any challenge that comes our way.”
UJ Ladies are currently placed third on the Hollywoodbets Super League standings and will not be taken for granted according to the skillful defender.
“We respect their position in the league and know they are a tough opponent. Our focus is on playing our game, staying disciplined and executing our plan with precision. While there are some signs of fatigue and exhaustion due to the traveling, most of these players have experienced this before. We are confident in our ability to push through and deliver a strong performance. The team is ready to rise to the occasion and we are ready to make our supporters proud.”
Earlier this season, Sundowns Ladies beat UJ Ladies 2-0 and Kholosa Biyana believes that it is critical to keep improving.
“Our focus will always be on us because we know what we are capable of when we play to our strengths. We acknowledge their recent run of results, but our priority is to maintain our form and continue building momentum. Every game is an opportunity to showcase our skills and improve as a unit.”
Biyana also issued a rallying call to the supporters to come out en masse to support the team. “We have not seen them in a while and their presence makes a huge difference. The energy they bring to the stadium is unmatched and it motivates us to perform at our best. Everyone is motivated to give their all on the field, knowing how much this league means to us.”
The match between Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and University of Johannesburg Ladies is scheduled to take place on Sunday, August 25th, at the UJ Stadium, with kick-off set for 15:00. The game will be broadcast live on SABC 1.
