Amajita Qualify For the 2025 CAF U20 AFCON

The U20 Men’s National Team have qualified to participate in the 2025 U20 AFCON, after defeating Angola in a 1-0 affair, enroute to the final round of the U20 COSAFA Championship, on Thursday afternoon at the ABB Stadium in Mozambique.

The one goal was all thanks to Jody Ah Shene who grabbed it just before the half hour mark, receiving the ball that was set-up nicely by Downs’ Kutlwano Letlhaku.

Angola created clear-cut chances and kept threatening to score throughout the first stanza, but the combination of Masandawana’s Thato Sibiya and Kaizer Chiefs’ Mbekezeli Mbokazi at the back was crucial in ensuring the ball doesn’t get past the danger area. With both sides fighting to see more goals, they were unable to convert chances. South Africa went to the break a goal ahead.

The second half saw resilience displayed by Angola, trying to level matters, but the Amajita defence was very tight. Coach Raymond Mdaka’s men were equally fighting, with Shandre Campbell creating a big chance that saw the ball hitting the woodwork. Letlhaku also created dangerous chances but was just not getting it right to see the ball go past the goalie. Despite the many chances created by both outfits, the 1-0 scoreline saw Amajita book a spot the final.

Coach Raymond’s men will be aiming to secure their ninth COSAFA Championship title when they compete against Zambia – who defeated Zimbabwe on penalties – on Saturday afternoon at the ABB Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 14H00.
