Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies delivered one of their most impressive performances of the season as they crushed Durban Ladies 6-1 at the Tuks stadium in an entertaining Hollywoodbets Super League clash on Sunday afternoon.
Both Lebohang Ramalepe and Andisiwe Mgcoyi smashed in superb braces with Lerato Kgasago and Melinda Kgadiete also finding the back of the net as Banyana Ba Style grabbed their ninth win of the season in comfortable fashion.
The Brazilians began the game on the front foot, with Lebohang Ramalepe opening the scoring for the day in the 10th minute thanks to a fine team move.
The reigning champions continued to apply pressure and were duly rewarded with a flurry of strikes, which were headlined by an Andisiwe Mgcoyi brace in a ruthless first half of attacking football.
Sundowns Ladies continued to dominate both possession and territory after the restart and sealed the deal with just five minutes left on the clock, with Ramalepe wrapping up her brace, scoring her first pair of goals for the club.
Although the visitors grabbed a late consolation goal, the defending champions had done enough to register their biggest win of the campaign. Ramalepe, who was named Player of the Match, insisted that the game was not an easy one despite the final scoreline.
“We knew they would come at us, so we brought our A-game and showcased our capabilities across the pitch. Despite their prolonged periods of sitting back, we remained in control and converted our chances with precision. This ability is what makes us a dominant force in the game. Our thorough preparation for this match paid off, and we are thrilled to have secured maximum points. The late goal by the visitors was disappointing, but it does not detract from the overall success of our performance,” Lebohang stated.
Kgadiete once again expressed her delight at getting on the scoresheet, having already scored a last-gasp goal against JVW FC last time out.
“It was a fantastic day for us as we performed admirably in all aspects of the game. We put on a perfect display, both offensively and defensively, and I am thrilled to have contributed to the team’s success by scoring once again. We will build on this success and continue to strive for excellence as we look forward to our next fixture,” stated Melinda.
Having missed several games due to injury concerns, Mgcoyi was delighted to make a scoring return to the team, “Getting these goals today means so much to me because they will boost my confidence. Having been away from the team for some time, match rustiness is an issue that I have to deal with. Nonetheless, I am glad that my performance today was strong, and I am hoping that it will serve as a springboard for me to achieve more success in future matches. With each game, I am working hard to shake off any rust and build upon my strengths, so that I can continue to contribute to the team’s success.”
In terms of goal-scoring for Sundowns Ladies, Andisiwe Mgcoyi’s brace brings her season total to four goals, level with Melinda Kgadiete and Lelona Daweti. Boitumelo Rabale still leads the chart with 8 strikes. Lebohang Ramalepe meanwhile has two goals to her name.
Up next for Sundowns Ladies is a clash against Coal City Wizards.
