The Engen Knockout Challenge has been a pioneer of grassroots football for the past twenty years. Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies’ side is making its debut in this year’s edition. The team was recently assembled and is under the tutelage of Agnes Nkosi as the Head Coach, who also doubles up as the assistant to Jerry Tshabalala in the Senior squad.
In the opening game of the 2022 edition, they took on Motshana Ladies and Coach Nkosi spoke about the encounter.
” It is a great honour to be part of this project, as you know with Mamelodi Sundowns we always strive to be the best at what we do. We assembled this squad in a very short space of time and to see them going into the field of play and doing very well in their opening game shows that we are on the right track”.
The junior Banyana Ba Style side played some great football and managed to bang five goals with Lumka Qhekeka, Mbali Kobela, each banging a brace and Neo Mfisa scoring the fifth. the encounter ended 5-2.
“I am happy with the result, we created a lot of chances but the fact we scored five is an indication that we are playing attacking football which is something that the senior ladies side is doing. We want to make sure that the philosophy is passed on from this side so that when they make the Hollywoodbets team, they are aware of the way we play up there’ expressed Coach Nkosi.
Andisiwe Mgcoyi and Rhoda Mulaudzi have also been roped in to assist Coach Nkosi, ” working with Andisiwe and Rhoda is an honour, we have known each other for a couple of years as we have played together and now to be part of a technical team together is something big for us. It shows that we want to have continuity and we can only grow from this opportunity we have been afforded by the club”. concluded
