The Betway Premiership mid-week fixture promises to be an exciting one as Mamelodi Sundowns aim to leverage their home advantage against Polokwane City, determined to turn things around on Wednesday evening at Loftus Versfeld.
Downs’ last league match was against the same side where they were handed their first league defeat. Heading to the return fixture which is in their backyard, Masandawana are aiming to notch up their fifth victory and return to winning ways. Looking ahead to Wednesday’s encounter, midfielder, Bathusi Aubaas suggested that his side will use apply the same mentality they had when they faced Kaizer Chiefs in the cup competition at the weekend.
“I think the match against Kaizer Chiefs went very well. We applied ourselves the way the coaches wanted us to play. Going into our home game against Polokwane City, if we do the same thing we did against Chiefs, we will get the desired results. We now have to really focus, considering that we didn’t play well against them. I have hope that we will do better this time around,” he said.
The Kuruman-born player stated that his side have noted their opposition’s strengths and have been working on them to ensure that they don’t have a repeat of their first meeting between the two sides, saying: “I think Polokwane City have physical strikers, making them a hard team to play against. Their strikers always bulldoze the defenders but I’m confident that we will deal with that. We will also deal with their second balls as they are a team that plays a lot of long balls and crosses.”
“In their last five games, they have won three games, lost won and drew one. They are certainly a big threat, also considering they are third on the table. They will be motivated to play against us tomorrow, but we will make sure that we grab the maximum points,” he continued.
Aubaas concluded by encouraging the 12th man, the yellow nation, to come out in numbers to support them as they aim to make them happy.
“We are promising the Yellow Nation a good game. We will work extremely hard to make sure that we win for them. We also encourage them to come out in numbers to support us at Loftus Versfeld.”
Mamelodi Sundowns will go head-to-head against Polokwane City on Wednesday evening. Kick-off is scheduled for 19H30.
