Two-time Champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies have been handed an exciting Group B assignment as they bid to secure another place at the CAF Women’s Champions League continental finals through the COSAFA Qualifier, which will take place in Gaborone, Botswana, from August 20–29.
The Brazilians have been drawn alongside Eswatini champions Nsingizini Hotspurs FC, Mozambique’s Costa do Sol and Malawi’s Silver Strikers in a competitive group where only the top two teams will progress to the semi-finals.
Despite their impressive pedigree, Banyana Ba Style know there will be little room for complacency as each of their opponents will be eager to upset one of Africa’s most successful women’s clubs. The eventual winner of the regional qualifier will earn Southern Africa’s coveted spot at the CAF Women’s Champions League finals later this year.
Sundowns Ladies head into the tournament as one of the favourites, boasting an outstanding record in the competition. They have won the continental CAF Women’s Champions League twice and reached another final.
The Brazilians will also arrive in Botswana brimming with confidence following a sensational start to their Hollywoodbets Super League title defence. Sundowns Ladies have won all five of their league matches this season, scoring an incredible 21 goals while yet to concede a single goal. an indication of their dominance at both ends of the pitch.
The 2026 edition marks the sixth staging of the CAF Women’s Champions League COSAFA Qualifier. Botswana becomes only the third nation to host the tournament after South Africa staged the first four editions and Malawi hosted the fifth.
