Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies will be aiming to clinch the top spot in Group B and book a place in the semi-final of the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League as they clash against Congo’s TP Mazembe in their final group fixture.
Back-to-back wins have seen Banyana Ba Style take the second edition of the continent’s premier women’s tournament by storm.
The Brazilians have scored the most goals (7) with Lelona Daweti scoring 3 of them as her electric start to the tournament continues.
“So far, I am very happy with my performance levels and that of my teammates at the competition. The mood within the camp is glowing with positivity and everyone is focused on the objective of why we are here. We came to Morocco with a well-laid-out plan to dominate games, create chances and score goals. We have lived up to the expectations, but we are hungry for more,” the 23-year-old forward stated.
Ahead of the clash against TP Mazembe, Daweti says, “The game will not be an easy one because they are a very physical side who are seeking maximum points to seal progression to the knockout phase. However, these are the games that champions live for, and we will be giving our best to clinch the top spot. A big shout out to the Yellow Nation family for all the support thus far.”
Chuene Morifi who has also impressed in Morocco has showered praise on the resilience of the reigning continental champions.
“The level of competition in Morocco is quite high and games are tougher than it was during last year’s tournament. Nevertheless, we have been working very hard in training to improve our performance levels and those efforts have yielded good results so far. There is so much going on behind the scenes and the technical team has been very helpful with the addition of the video analysts which has improved our gameplay. The morale in the camp is very high and everyone is motivated to achieve a repeat of last year’s success,” Morifi said.
Although Daweti and Boitumelo Rabale has dominated the headlines with their goals, Morifi believes the team’s overall quality cannot be ignored.
“The entire team has shown their quality across the first two games and that is a result of the collective determination running within the group. Everyone is aiming to etch their name into the record books. From the goalkeeping unit to the attacking unit, we are ready to fight for each other to achieve our major objective which is to retain our continental crown,” Chuene concluded.
The match between Sundowns Ladies and Congo’s TP Mazembe will take place on Sunday, the 6th of November, at Stade de Marrakech. The kick-off time for the fixture is 21h00 (SAST).
