After a season of smashing various footballing records, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies Team is back in training and looking to ‘go again’ as the new campaign draws ever closer. In the last few weeks, the Brazilians have been involved in a couple of friendly games as they intensify preparations ahead of the new season.
Banyana Ba Style featured in games against the Namibia women’s national football team and also participated in the Dlala Ntombazana Tournament hosted in Bloemfontein which featured teams from Limpopo, Northern Cape, Eastern Cape, and Gauteng.
The busy preseason schedule has left Coach Jerry Tshabalala in confident mode ahead of the new season.
“The preseason schedule has been great for us as we have had the opportunities to build our fitness levels across the squad. The games offered us some stern tests which helped us to fine-tune our tactical and technical strategies. We have had to play with stronger oppositions (including a couple of Under-20 male teams) to enable us to build our resilience and determination as we embark on the new campaign. Overall, we are happy with the intensity of the preseason games and we are hoping to emulate our record-breaking feats from last term.”
Masandawana enjoyed unprecedented success last campaign, winning an unprecedented treble, the most successful season in the club’s illustrious history. Coach Tshabalala believes the key to repeating that incredible success begins from the rigorousness of the preseason program.
“We made such a good impression last season both domestically and continentally. We know the challenge that we are up against next season. We are going to be facing teams that are determined to nullify our threats and impede our outlined objectives. That is why I am happy that our preseason program has been designed to test our doggedness and thus far we have been able to test ourselves on multiple fronts. This will enable us to be adequately prepared to defend our titles across all fronts next season.
The preseason has witnessed some incomings and outgoings to and from the Chloorkop-based side respectively. Gabonnelwe Salome Kekana joined the club from Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) Ladies while Lebogang Mabatle and Sizanda Komane parted ways with the club.
The new season of the Hollywoodbets Super League is scheduled to begin next month.
