Coach Jerry Tshabalala has expressed his excitement in anticipation of the new season as his team prepares to defend both their domestic and continental titles.
Having led his side to a clean sweep for the second time in three years, the Banyana Ba Style coach believes preseason preparations have been great and is looking forward to ‘going again’ as the season gets underway this weekend.
“The pre-season has been excellent and we are determined to kick off the season on a positive note. The team has shown remarkable progress during our preparations and we are ready for the challenges that lie ahead. We have focused on key aspects during our training sessions, fine-tuning our strategies and addressing any weaknesses. The players have demonstrated commitment and I believe the team is in good shape both physically and mentally,” Coach Jerry stated.
The new season presents the Brazilians with several record-breaking opportunities as the team will be gunning for their fifth consecutive Hollywoodbets Super League title, a third CAF Women’s Champions League and a third COSAFA regional title. With all this in mind, the Free State-born tactician believes his team is fully motivated ahead of the task at hand.
“Our goal is clear – to defend our titles and maintain the high standard of performance that our supporters expect. I am delighted with the recent signings of Nthabiseng Majiya and Cimone Sauls as their addition will undoubtedly introduce much-needed competition within the group. I am thrilled to note that in every position on the team, approximately two or three players are competing for those spots. This healthy competition not only enhances individual performance but also elevates the overall team dynamics,” the Banyana Ba Style coach added.
Sundowns Ladies kickstart their season this weekend with a crunch clash against Royal AM at the Lucas Moripe Stadium. Coach Jerry has tipped his team to extend their opening-day dominance, having won their season-openers in the last three years.
“We are excited ahead of the game because it marks the beginning of what we hope to be another remarkable season. Facing Royal AM provides an early challenge and our anticipation is driven by the desire to demonstrate the hard work and dedication that has gone into our preparations. The journey of the season begins and we are ready to leave everything on the field,” Coach Jerry concluded.
Mamelodi Sundowns clash against Royal AM is scheduled for the 3rd of March 2023 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium. The match will kick off at 15:00.
