Coach Rulani Mokwena on the team’s performance against Arrows

Mamelodi Sundowns ended the year in the DSTV Premiership on top of the log standings and this happened after eight games and no loss registered. Masandawana took on Golden Arrows at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium and the game ended in a one-all draw and this means both teams remain unbeaten.

Coach Rulani Mokwena spoke about the encounter and said ” We come to a match with the expectation to win and that has been our motto this season, we take it one game at a time. We want to win every single match and it is disappointing that we only got one point and you can see the spirits are not very good, the players are not happy with the point and that is good because we are the champions. We scored first and we allowed our structure to collapse and a goal was scored through transition, which should not happen. We take the point.”

The goal was scored by debutant Mothobi Mvala through a set-piece which is something that Coach Rulani Mokwena touched on “We are working very hard on set plays and this was one of the schemes we worked on and it was good to see us scoring from it.”

The game against Abafana Be’sthende saw a few new faces making their debut and a first start

Mvala did his best and has a lot to offer the team, still in the adapting phase in trying to induct him to the way of Sundowns play. He comes from a different style of play. For a goal in his start that should be encouraging for him. A lot needs to be done in terms of adapting to the game model. Grant did his best, but not in a position that we would like to see him play going forward into the season. We want a lot of effort, we want the right mentality and that is what he showed. With more game time, and better conditions we will see a lot of Grant Margeman,” said Coach Rulani Mokwena

These three Musketeers are playing with fire 🔥 and they’ll be burned. Motsepe is going to fire you whole lot if you don’t come with anything this season. We seem to be only playing well @ home these days, and champions surely can’t be playing like that. They need to get their act fast, because Pirates is looming large and it’ll be extremely difficult to beat them early next year with a display like that. A defeat against them and confusion set in and we start playing like Zebras 🦓. I was very much impressed with Swallows as well, just the dedication and the spirit from the players. I thought their early performance in the league will fizzle out as the time goes on, but their performance yesterday made me think twice
