This afternoon Mamelodi Sundowns head into matchweek 18 of their domestic campaign with a clash against Black Leopards. The Brazilians, who are currently in fine form, go into the game sitting on top of the league table with thirty-nine points after seventeen games. Most notably the team has yet to taste defeat in the DStv Premiership this season.
Speaking on the impressive form of the team, Coach Rulani Mokwena said: “We have to be in touch with reality, we have to understand from a psychological perspective where the players are. What’s important is to appreciate all of the hard work from the players because this has led to the position that we find ourselves in. No championship or league title has ever been won in March, there’s still a lot to improve and to work on in our schemes both defensively and offensively. We’ve just got to continue with the right sort of mindset.”
The Brazilians will head into the tie without Peter Shalulile who has been on an impressive run of scoring and assisting which goes back to the brace he scored against Leopards in January. However, Coach Rulani expressed that the squad have enough firepower to take on Lidoda Duvha without the Namibian frontman.
“We’re going into this game without him so in a way we have to adjust our schemes because Peter is such an integral part of not only our offensive schemes but also our defensive schemes. It will be interesting to see how we deal with their build-up triangle. We have enough quality, we don’t even speak about players that we miss, we present opportunities to everyone and we don’t just have depth but we have quality in our depth.”
Sunday afternoon marks the last fixture of the month for The Brazilians before the FIFA International break and Mokwena warned that there is still a lot to play when club action resumes: “There are bigger challenges that lie ahead of us, April is going to have nine games, May will be where everything is decided, it’s called the business end for a specific reason.”
The match will take place this afternoon at Loftus Versfeld and will kick-off at 17:00.
We are going to celebrate another win tonight. I don’t see us loosing this game it’s a walk in the park. When I look at my players and the games that we already won, it is going to be another loose from us to Lidoda Duvha they know us and we know how to beat them. We did beat them in the first leg and we gonna beat them again to night. THE SKY IS THE LIMIT Kabo Yellow Masandawana
