The DSTV Diski Challenge 2022/23 season is back & Mamelodi Sundowns start their campaign against cross-town rivals SuperSport United. The Brazilians finished last season in position seven after thirty games. Masandawana have been hard in preparations and will be looking to have a go at the championship which was won by Stellenbosch FC.
Coach Surprise Moriri who is at the helm of the Diski side spoke about the upcoming fixture: “We are up against SuperSport United away from home. It’s not going to be an easy encounter but we have been working hard preparing the side for the new season”.
Matsatsantsa did the double last season when the two sides met and the Brazilians will be hoping to have a good start and Coach Surprise Moriri spoke about what to expect on the day: “We have seen how they play and their style is similar to how their senior side plays. They rely more on crosses, they focus on wing play and also get numbers in the box and that is one thing we have to be cautious about. Our priority is to make sure they don’t play their game and I can say that it will be a very interesting game.”
“Cassius Mailula who was promoted to the senior team and was an integral member of the Diski team made his debut against Chippa United in the DSTV Premiership. We know with the coaches in the senior team he will grow and be a great asset to the Mamelodi Sundowns team.”
“We are really happy to see the progress of Cassius to the senior team, everyone at the academy is proud, to see him making progress from our development shows the amount of development is being put behind these boys”.
The reserve side has made a couple of signings to strengthen the squad and have welcomed back Jerome Karelse after a long spell out through injury.
“We have brought in a few players, like Bhongolwethu Siyasi who was at Cape Town Spurs, he plays as a right back, also we have added some firepower upfront with Sipho Maluleka who is an attacking midfielder. Jerome is back after being out with injury to beef up our attack this season and we can’t wait to get the ball rolling.” said Coach Surprise Moriri
Guys truth to be told and I don’t care who insult me but this Sundowns team is playing kaak and if we continue playing like this no trophy will be on our cabinet this season.
Our play is not fluidity we are rushing things, players don’t do just the basics of playing foitball, pls dont be deceived by that fluke win and Champs League is around the corner, maybe the standard of Psl is dropping tremendously if a team playing like that is topping the league.
Maybe if we can trim a squad a little bit I saw to one of the publication that we are having more than fifteen middlefielders which is unheard of and Rhulani to his postmatch interview told us that Downs is on right track and I don’t what he’s talking about because this is not Downs we knew, let’s analyze the team and stop supporting the results or blind by the love of the team all of us love this team more than anything but I repeat Downs is playing like a third division team maybe our Management is the time to re visit this thing of co-coaches because I really don’t know where we are lacking now, lastly this thing of being told that Zungu will play in October is not sitting well with me just hive him at least 65 minutes and analyze him after that, our play is not combining and if it keep on continues like this we will end up hating our own players really I’m afraid and Pirates MIGHTY beat us us this time around.
