The eight-time South African champions dominate the Premier Soccer League awards nominees just like they dominated their rivals in the 2017/18 season which they ended with lifting the Absa Premiership.
Mamelodi Sundowns’ captain Hlompho Kekana and Percy Tau lead the nominations. The pair are in the running for Footballer of the Season along with Siphesihle Ndlovu. Tau is also nominated in the Absa Premiership Player’s Player of the Season. The 24-year-old will also share the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot award with Rodney Ramagalela after finishing the season tied on 11 goals, a fitting finish to what has been a remarkable season for Tau.
Kekana is part of the trio nominated for Absa Premiership Midfielder of the Season. Africa’s finest, Denis Onyango, is among the nominees for Goalkeeper of the Season. Former Caf Coach of the Year, Pitso Mosimane, is part of the three-man list competing for the Coach of the Year gong. The nominees were announced at the PSL headquarters in Parktown on Monday. The winners will be announced at the Sandton Convention Centre on May 29.
That ceremony will come exactly a week after the Brazilians took on Horoya in Conakry in the Caf Champions League group stage. Sundowns take on the Guinea outfit on Wednesday in a match where three points would see the Brazilians tied with Wydad Casablanca on four points at the top of Group C.
