Downs Gear Up for Second Leg of CAFCL Quarterfinals in Tunisia

Mamelodi Sundowns are on the road this week for the second leg of the CAF Champions League quarterfinals to face Esperance Sportive de Tunis on Tuesday night at the Stade Olympique Hammadi Agrebi.

They head to this return leg with an upper hand following a crucial 1-0 victory at home, courtesy of Peter Shalulile’s second-half heroics in a physically demanding first leg of the quarterfinal stage. The objective in the return fixture will be to emerge victorious away from home to advance to the next round of the competition.

Looking ahead to the encounter set to take place in Tunisia, the Namibia-born forward stated that what won them the match was sticking to the game plan and they will do the same in the return fixture. He also stated that the coach having worked with Esperance before has helped in preparing for the two clashes.

The last game was not easy, we tried to knock on the door but eventually we got a goal through the work of Lucas Ribeiro and Jaden Adams who assisted me. The objective, as we head to Tunisia, is the same which is to stick to the game plan, grind for results, and just hope that they don’t score,” he said.

The coach brought in experience and it helps that he is a good coach. He told us everything about Esperance because he has coached the team before. He told us how much we need to focus and go with the game plan he gave us,” he continued.

Defender, Mosa Lebusa also lauded the coach’s support stating that he hopes his encouragement will help the team emerge victorious. He said: “We are playing a very good side in Esperance and it will be difficult for both teams to play the normal game, as we saw last week in the first leg. We are fortunate enough to have our coach who makes sure we work hard to get the results we desire. Hopefully, with the hard work we’ve put into preparing for this game, we can come out victorious.”

Mamelodi Sundowns will clash with Esperance Sportive de Tunis for a place in the CAF Champions League semifinals on Tuesday night at Stade Olympique Hammadi Agrebi. Kick-off has been scheduled for 21H00, live on SABC Sports and SuperSport TV.
