Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies displayed their dominance once again as they secured a convincing 5-1 victory against Thunderbirds Ladies in a thrilling Hollywoodbets Super League match at Lucas Moripe Stadium last Saturday.
Andisiwe Mgcoyi’s brace, along with goals from Rhoda Mulaudzi, Regina Mogolola and Malebogo Shawe, propelled Banyana Ba Style to victory over their Eastern Cape rivals.
With an impressive 12 goals scored in their last two games (seven against Lindelani Ladies and five against Richmond United), the Brazilians wasted no time in their encounter with Thunderbirds Ladies. Rhoda swiftly found the net in the first minute of the match, setting the tone for the game.
In the 14th minute, the Continental Champions further solidified their lead, with Mogolola scoring to continue her fine form. The second half saw Mgcoyi score twice, with Shawe also getting in on the scoring action, as Sundowns Ladies eased to their seventh win in eight games this season.
Lehlogonolo Mashigo, who delivered an outstanding performance, hailed the team’s clinical finishing.
“I am happy with the team’s attacking runs today because we created so many chances. It was a game that we needed to score early in because you never know what happens when you fail to convert your chances. On a personal note, I am happy with my level of performance. Overall, it was a perfect day for us. However, there are still areas we can improve upon, and we will continue working hard to maintain this momentum,” Lehlogonolo stated.
With her brace, Andisiwe Mgcoyi’s goal tally for the season now stands at three, tying her with Salome Kekana on the Sundowns Ladies’ goalscoring chart. Boitumelo Rabale, Miche Minnies, and Nthabiseng Majiya are all tied on five goals each, while Chuene Morifi and Regina Mogolola have both scored twice. Cimone Sauls, Kholosa Biyana, Asanda Hadebe, Lebohang Ramalepe, Melinda Kgadiete, Rhoda Mulaudzi and Malebogo Shawe have all scored one goal each.
Looking ahead, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies are gearing up for a clash against City Lads at the Isaac Wolfson Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday, May 1st, with kick-off scheduled for 15:00.
