Mamelodi Sundowns defender Grant Kekana believes his side can turn their fortunes around as they shift their focus back to the domestic league to host Sekhukhune United on Saturday evening at Loftus Versfeld.
The league title defenders will be aiming to return to winning ways and produce a convincing victory after coming from the back of a loss in a cup final as well as a goalless draw in the CAF Champions League.
“It has been a tough week. We are disappointed with the result of the final, and we couldn’t get a victory in our first Champions League game, so we are trying to pick each other up. We know it’s still a long season ahead, and we can’t cry over spilt milk. We just need to rectify where we have to and make sure that we start winning games again,” he said.
“I think we are just trying to hold each other accountable. We each get given a task to do, to make sure that the team gets positive results. I think we have all been doing a lot of introspection, and we are happy that as teammates, we can hold each other accountable,” Kekana continued.
This fixture will be a stern test for Masandawana, as they will be up against a Sekhukhune United side that comes from a 3-1 loss. The previous results from both teams promise an exciting match in Pretoria. The 32-year-old defender affirmed that the encounter will be a difficult one, but his side has been preparing to ensure the result goes their way.
“When teams come and play against us, they are always fired up. We know that they lost their last game during the week, but they have a good squad and coach. It’s going to be another tough game, one that we need to prepare very well for to get our confidence back up,” he stated.
Kekana concluded by thanking the Yellow Nation for the unwavering support they have been showing the team despite the results. He promised them that his side would make them happy again, saying: “We just need them to stick with us. We are going through a tough patch right now, and it happens. It’s not every day that things go your way, but we appreciate the support. We can hear them in every game, no matter how well or bad we play. They sing their lungs out, and we hear the drum. We encourage them to continue coming to support us. The tide will change, and we will start getting the rub of the green.”
Mamelodi Sundowns will host Sekhukhune United on Saturday evening at Loftus Versfeld. Kick-off has been scheduled for 20H00, live on SuperSport TV.
