Hard work and being around top players has helped – Shalulile

Peter Shalulile has been a man on a mission since he made the move to join Mamelodi Sundowns from Highlands Park. The Namibian international came to Chloorkop after winning the league’s top goalscorer award and has hit the ground running. Shalulile says that a combination of hard work and being surrounded by top players around him is what is helping him to do well at Masandawana.

Affectionately known as “Mr Tuck-in”, The in-form striker returned to that starting lineup after missing the draw against Swallows FC and has been firing on all cylinders, with standout performances against Black Leopards and Chippa United where he contributed two goals and two assists in those two games. However, his contribution to the side goes beyond the numbers that he puts up; Shalulile is known for his tremendous work rate on game day and his kilometres covered during a game can often be amongst the highest of all the players on the pitch.

“I am not a very skilful player, so my hard work does it for me as I always give 100 percent every game. Energy is natural to me, also the will to not give up and help each other on the field. I believe that strikers are defenders as the first line of defence starts with us up there. If we make sure that the ball does not pass then the job is done”.

Shalulile has formed a deadly combination with forwards Kermit Erasmus and Themba Zwane and his six league goals have helped propel Masandawana to the summit of the log standings at the halfway stage of the season.

“We are on top because of hard work and if we win, we win as a team not as individuals. Every game I set targets for myself, a goal or an assist and just have a good game whilst making sure that everyone is happy with my performance”, concluded Shalulile.
