Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies are aiming to end April on a high note as they face off against Thunderbirds Ladies in their eighth game of this season’s Hollywoodbets Super League.
The Brazilians have been in impeccable form this month, registering a 7-0 victory over Lindelani Ladies and a 5-0 win against Richmond United in their last outing. Five different players found the net at the De Aar Merino Park Stadium, which according to Salome Kekana, bodes well for the mood in camp.
“The mood in training is enjoyable and competitive as everyone understands the mandate of the team. As you can see this season, there is a renewed sense of unity and belief that has rubbed off on everyone, even the new signings. Everyone is happy to be here and we are determined to continue our good record. It is important for us to score more goals and not concede because it increases the chances of winning games,” Salome stated.
Kekana, who has already netted three times this season, emphasizes the importance of not underestimating their upcoming opponents. “Every time we face Thunderbirds Ladies, they come out strong. We cannot afford to be complacent. Our focus and intensity must be solid throughout the game to secure a victory,” she added.
Fit-again Rhoda Mulaudzi commended the team’s stellar start to the season, with Banyana Ba Style securing seven wins out of their first eight matches.
“Our team’s quality is evident, both in attack and defense. We have scored at least two goals in seven out of eight games, which underscores our commitment this season. Our strong start reflects our hard work, dedication and team spirit,” Mulaudzi stated.
Rhoda also emphasized the team’s determination to earn maximum points, especially considering last season’s unexpected 1-1 draw against Thunderbirds Ladies.
“We know that teams facing us will be determined to frustrate our attacking lines. We expect the same approach from our next opponents, but we are not going to focus on them, but rather on ourselves. We know they have not won a game this season, but remember they got a draw against us last season. So, we are treating the game with the utmost seriousness,” said the veteran striker.
Despite the 1-1 away draw last season, Sundowns Ladies flipped the script in the home game, putting seven past their opponents, with Andisiwe Mgcoyi scoring four goals. The season before that, Banyana Ba Style won 5-1 away and 4-0 at home. The season prior to that, Sundowns Ladies defeated their opponents 4-0 at home and 5-0 away
The match between Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and Thunderbirds Ladies is set to take place on Saturday, April 27th, at Lucas Moripe Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 15:00.
