Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies have successfully defended their Hollywoodbets Super League title with a comprehensive 5-0 victory over TUT Ladies at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday.
The win secured a historic fifth consecutive league title, maintaining their perfect record of winning every HWBSL title since the league’s inception.
Andisiwe Mgcoyi and Rhoda Mulaudzi each scored twice, while Lelona Daweti added a late goal to give Banyana Ba Style their 15th straight victory and bragging rights in the highly anticipated Tshwane Derby.
Cimone Sauls couldn’t hide her excitement after the victory. “We are very happy with the win. I am so grateful to be winning my first title with this great Club and I’m proud of the team’s effort. We played very well today and showed great teamwork and determination on the field. The midfielder also praised the team’s amazing win record, saying, “Maintaining this level of consistency isn’t easy, but we’ve managed to stay focused and give our best in every game. It shows the strength and unity of our squad, as well as the commitment from everyone on and off the field. Going unbeaten like this is something special, and it motivates us to keep aiming higher.”
The Brazilians have now amassed 80 points this season, with an impressive 26 wins in 29 matches. They lead the league with 112 goals scored, conceding just 12, and boast the league’s strongest defense with a goal difference of +100.
Boitumelo Rabale continues to lead the Sundowns Ladies’ scoring chart with 17 goals, while Nthabiseng Majiya has 14 strikes to her name. Miche Minnies and Andisiwe Mgcoyi follow with nine goals. Rhoda Mulaudzi and Refilwe Tholakele are tied with seven strikes each. Lebohang Ramalepe and Melinda Kgadiete have six goals for the season, while Salome Kekana has five goals. Lelona Daweti, Asanda Hadebe and Karabo Dhlamini all have four goals to their name. Zanele Madonsela and Regina Mogolola have each scored three goals each. Kholosa Biyana and Khunjulwa Mali have two goals apiece, while Cimone Sauls, Malebogo Shawe, Bambanani Mbane, Lehlogonolo Mashigo, Karabo Makhurubetshi and Nonhlanhla Mthandi have all found the back of the net once.
Sundowns Ladies will now turn their attention to next week’s CAF Women’s Champions League, where they will compete as reigning Champions. The two-time Continental Queens are drawn in Group B, alongside Egypt’s Tutankhamun FC, Ethiopia’s CBE FC and Nigeria’s Edo Queens.
This year’s tournament, scheduled from November 9 to 23, will be hosted in Morocco, promising another thrilling chapter in Sundowns Ladies’ journey on the continental stage.
