In-form Brazilians travel to East London for Thunderbirds clash

As the Hollywoodbets Super League reaches its midway stage, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies will strive to maintain their remarkable form when they go up against Thunderbirds Ladies at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium on Saturday.

Since the defeat suffered at the hands of Royal AM in early April, Banyana Ba Style has been in beast mode. Six straight wins have followed since then with the team scoring 26 goals and conceding just five goals in the process.

That scintillating run of form has seen the defending champions assume the top spot on the Hollywoodbets Super League table.

Ahead of the upcoming clash against Thunderbirds Ladies this weekend, Boitumelo Rabale, whose goals have played a crucial role for the team, believes that securing a victory on Saturday will strengthen their title aspirations.

“Climbing to the top of the league is merely the initial step in our journey. Our ultimate goal is to widen the gap and solidify our position at the top. Consequently, securing a victory in the game on Saturday holds paramount importance for us. Our preparations leading up to the match have been thorough and focused, ensuring that we are fully ready to give our best performance against our opponents,” Rabale stated.

Andisiwe Mgcoyi is expected to make a comeback to the team after missing a couple of games due to various coaching commitments.

“In the past few weeks, I have been fortunate to participate in exceptional coaching lessons that have significantly enhanced my comprehension of the game. As I step back onto the pitch, I am filled with excitement for the unique perspective I now possess. I eagerly look forward to applying the valuable knowledge and skills I have acquired during my recent trip abroad. The upcoming game on Saturday presents the ideal platform for me to showcase my growth and readiness. I am fully prepared and eager to give my best performance,” said Mgcoyi.

Andisiwe, who scored a superb hat trick against the East-London side last season, is hoping to inspire her team once again to victory, regardless of whether she finds the back of the net or not.

“To me, the most important objective is not individual goal-scoring, but rather the collective victory of the team. My satisfaction lies in earning three points as a cohesive unit. Regardless of who finds the back of the net during the game, we will all unite in celebration. Our sole aim is to achieve a resounding victory on Saturday, and that is where our focus lies,” Mgcoyi concluded.

Sundowns Ladies have relished this fixture in recent times. Last season, the Brazilians triumphed over their opponents with a commanding 5-1 victory away, followed by a resounding 4-0 win in the reverse meeting on home soil. In the previous season, Banyana Ba Style also secured an impressive 4-0 home triumph and a dominant 5-0 success away.

Thunderbirds Ladies currently occupy the 14th position out of 16 teams in the Hollywoodbets Super League table. They have accumulated eight points from 14 games, with only two victories to their name this season.

These wins came in Rounds 9 and 10, as they secured consecutive 1-0 triumphs over First Touch Academy and Copperbelt Ladies.

The clash between Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and Thunderbirds Ladies will take place on Saturday, May 27, at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium. The kick-off time is 15h00.
