Kapinga and Mudau Look Ahead To Clash At The Mbombela Stadium

Mamelodi Sundowns are back home to continue their title defense in the DStv Premiership after spending two weeks in North Africa.

Bafana Ba Style were the heroes of their own story in the CAF Champions League group A match day 3 of 6 in Cairo, Egypt last weekend. Masandawana’s solitary goal in their clash against Al Ahly SC was enough to rewrite history for the South African Champs who have struggled to score at the Cairo International stadium for five consecutive seasons. Downs’ full back, Khuliso Mudau was amongst the players that represented the Yellow Nation on the historical day that will long live in football.

“Playing in the CAF Champions League gives you the opportunity to compete against teams like Al Ahly and Zamalek, which are one of Africa’s biggest teams. Coming back from our win against Ahly to play our games in the domestic league, what we all need to do is to forget about that game, it has passed and we’ve celebrated it already, we need to focus on this one.” Said Mudau.

“The coaches made it clear that we need to put all our focus on this game and not get carried away by the Champions League. Everyone at training is going all out and we are ready for this encounter.”

“We are playing a very good team, if you can check their previous three games they’ve been doing very well, but even when we go into this game it’s not like we’re going to play for fun, we have our own plans which we are looking to carry out and we will make sure that we leave with points back home.”

The Brazilians’ midfielder, Lesedi Kapinga also formed a part of the traveling squad to Egypt and has been making great impressions on the field, helping his mates with his brilliance in attack. Kapinga expressed a rosy outlook of his experience in the continental football competition:

“It’s a privilege for me to be a part of this team, we want to win in everything that we do. It’s about grooming myself and also allowing the coaches, as well as the senior players to guide me .We are heading in one direction which is to win the CAF CL.”

Masandawana have scored more goals in the DStv Premiership, 36 in total and they also have conceded the least amount of goals. “Sailor” is one of the players that have scooped ‘man of the match’ awards in the league more than once as he contributes to both the attacking and defending systems at Downs. The 26-Year-Old Limpopo star explained the expectations of his position:

“As a full back here at Sundown’s you need to create scoring moments and assist the attackers and that’s what I do at training. I just need to help the team, give them everything that I have and it would make me happy to see myself assisting or scoring goals for the team.”

Adding to Mudau’s point of view was Kapinga, who said: “We are actually working on scoring a lot more of the goals and improving our play as a team because we are never satisfied with the way that we play. The coaches want us to do more as well and we want to make sure that we keep on dominating.”

Mamelodi Sundowns play against TS Galaxy in the DStv Premiership tonight at the Mbombela Stadium. Kick off is at 19H30, live on SuperSport.
