Mamelodi Sundowns maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 3-2 win against Royal AM on Wednesday afternoon. The win took Downs to 34 points at the summit of the DStv Premiership table after fourteen games played.
With goals from two of the league’s top scorers, Downs’ Peter Shalulile and AM’s Victor Letsoalo – it was a wonder strike from Thabiso Kutumela that opened the scoring in the entertaining five-goal thriller.
Speaking on his goal, the tricky forward mentioned how scoring in the game made him feel and what it would do for his confidence going forward: “I feel good, it’s been a bit long since I scored against TS Galaxy and I think it will help me get my confidence up and keep helping the team to win games.”
Bafana Ba Style had to weather a late storm in the Capital City as Royal AM pulled two goals back to set up an intriguing finish on the day. Despite holding a 3-0 lead at some point, Kutumela highlighted the fact that the whole game was a challenge for Bafana Ba Style:
“It was not an easy game for us, it was a bit hectic in the first half, even before we got the first goal it was difficult for us because they were playing with five [at the back] and we wanted to play like them by also having five at the back, so we had to manage them.”
“After getting the goal, they really came at us. We were coming along alright and we had to try and close them down in the middle of the field because that’s where [Lantshene] Phalane was making them play. But we managed to control that quite well and push on for more goals.”
The December action continues to come thick and fast towards Mamelodi Sundowns with the season reaching the halfway stage this weekend. Up next for Bafana Ba Style is a Tshwane Derby against local rivals SuperSport United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.
