After delivering an emphatic 6-0 victory over Ma-Indies Ladies, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies will be switching their sights to Sunday’s highly anticipated Tshwane Derby.
The Brazilians face TUT Ladies Football Club in the headline fixture of Week 21 of the Hollywoodbets Super League.
The Tshwane Derby delivered 11 goals last season with Banyana Ba Style registering a 4-1 win in the away fixture and sealed a 4-2 win in the reverse clash to earn a superb double over their rivals.
Earlier this season, The Brazilians ran out 5-1 winners thanks to goals from Lerato Kgasago, Rhoda Mulaudzi, Karabo Dhlamini, Gabonnelwe Kekana, and Nonhlanhla Mthandi.
Despite the recent dominance enjoyed by his troops, Coach Jerry ‘Kappa’ Tshabalala is not undermining the tricky nature of the encounter.
“This is a very tough fixture in the football calendar because it is never an easy game. Yes, we have enjoyed some bragging rights in recent times, but that is a result of keeping focused and switched on at all times. When it comes to the Tshwane Derby, the current form goes out of the window. It is a game of huge significance considering that both teams are still in the hunt for the title. We have to be on-point with our tactics and strategies in the key areas of the pitch,” Kappa stated.
Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies are currently top of the standings with 49 points after bagging 16 wins and 1 draw in 18 games played. The Brazilians have scored a league-high 79 goals and have conceded only 10 times, the best defense in the league. Kappa’s charges also have an incredible goal difference of +69.
Sundowns Ladies are currently five points clear at the top of the table with JVW FC on 44 points. TUT Ladies are currently third on the Hollywoodbets Super League table with 42 points. The Red Army Ladies have won 12 times this season, with 6 draws and just 2 defeats.
Coach Jerry believes victories against teams battling for the title will go a long way in boosting the morale of his side.
“In the last few weeks, we have played against teams that are looking to dethrone us and TUT is the latest of such teams. They have enjoyed some great performances this season and we must give them kudos for their fight thus far. But the more we claim maximum points off the top teams, the better for us. We need to significantly open that gap at the top of the table and victory against TUT Ladies will strengthen our cause. We need to be clinical on Sunday and we are working hard on that in training,” Kappa concluded.
The tantalizing fixture between Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and TUT Ladies Football Club will take place on Sunday, 25 September 2022, at TUT stadium. The kick-off time for the clash is 15h00.
