Mamelodi Sundowns enjoyed the well-deserved mid-season break following the hectic festive season schedule they had in 2023, and have now returned to training, kicking off the year with impetus and the same winning mentality.
2023 brought with it many highs, with a string of victories and accolades that will remain engraved in their memories. They became the first side to win over ten games consecutively from the start of a Premier Soccer League (PSL) top-flight campaign, while they remain unbeaten. The biggest highlight of the year was becoming the inaugural champions of the African Football League (AFL).
Downs are gearing up to resume what will be a jam-packed year. They start off with an away game in the DStv Premiership, followed by the Nedbank Cup. They will be resuming their CAF Champions League campaign too.
Midfielder, Neo Maema, said the team is thrilled to be back in training and they look forward to being in the pitch again. He said: “It feels really good to be back. It has been a great first half of the season for the team. We are just happy to be back at training and to pick up from where we left off. Most importantly, we can’t wait to see our supporters.”
The Pretoria-based side will resume play languishing on top of the top-flight table, having played 13 games, with 11 victories and only two draws. They will look to kick-start the year on a high note when they travel to Kwa-Zulu Natal, for their first encounter of 2024, to do clash with Golden Arrows.
