Mamelodi Sundowns will be looking to collect three points from their year-opening clash against Swallows which will take place on Tuesday evening to strengthen their lead in the DSTV Premiership campaign. Head Coach Rulani Mokwena previewed the upcoming clash and shared his expectations.
“We have to recover very well from the last game, and we know it’s going to be a difficult game against Swallows, mainly because of the leadership of Ernst Middendorp. We also look at it as a difficult game by not taking away the incredible job that Musa Nyatama did in the interim while he was in charge’’, said Coach Mokwena as he shared his match preview.
Bafana Ba Style have relished their consistent and impressive run of form. After their 2-0 weekend victory against Orlando Pirates, the team is looking to continue with their winning ways and remain at the top of the table as they meet Swallows for their first game of the year.
Coach Rulani Mokwena communicated his respect for newly appointed Swallows Coach Ernst Middendorp. “During the World Cup, we had frequent communication about his observations as well as his learnings and he’s always been willing to share information with me. I had his book before it was released which has snippets of tactical insights, so this game should be very interesting. He’s a very good Coach, one I have huge respect for, and I learn a lot from him. He’s somebody that wants to beat us which is why we need to prepare ourselves adequately.”
The Masandwana Coach added that the experience that Coach Middendorp has in tactical quality will assist the club not just against Mamelodi Sundowns but moving forward against other teams. He hopes for the team to start the year on a good note by producing a good result.
Swallows, who are positioned fourteenth (14th) on the log with only one game won out of their last five games will be looking to redeem themselves. The Brazilians have been dominant in the domestic league with an excellent consecutive clean sheet and no goals conceded in their five last games.
Mamelodi Sundowns will take on Swallows on Tuesday, 3 January 2023 at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium. Kick-off is at 19h30 and will be broadcast on SuperSport.
