Mamelodi Sundowns will be in Johannesburg to face NFD side, La Masia FC for their first round in the Nedbank Cup, following the Round of 32 draw that took place on Thursday evening.
Masandawana will be stepping into an unfamiliar territory when they visit the Westbury-based side, who are currently sitting on the 10th spot after 17 games in the NFD table.
According to Downs’ midfielder, Bathusi Aubaas, his side will not head into their first round of the tournament with their guard down. They will prepare for it the same way they would any other encounter.
“Playing in the Nedbank Cup is sometimes difficult but we are a team that is strong-willed. Whatever Coach Rulani asks us to do in the tournament, we will have to apply. We will have to go there ruthless. We can’t afford to take the encounter for granted,” Bathusi said.
In the 2022/23 version of the tournament, the Brazilians were knocked out at the quarter-final round after a 2-1 defeat against Stellenbosch FC. They will be looking to turn things around in this edition of the competition and take the cup home.
The Nedbank Cup is scheduled to take place in February. The dates, venues and kick off times will be announced at a later stage.
