Match Preview: Reigning Champions Ready For Golden Ladies Test

After producing a hard-fought 2-1 victory in their opening game against Ma-Indies Ladies in the Hollywoodbets Super League, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies will be aiming to maintain their perfect start to the season with a clash against Golden Ladies.

Goals from debutant Miche Minnies and Boitumelo Rabale were enough to see off the Limpopo-based side in a tough opener. On the other hand, Golden Ladies suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Thunderbirds in their opening fixture.

Ahead of the match against Golden Ladies, midfielder Chantelle Esau believes her side is ready for another potentially tricky tie.

“The game against Ma-Indies Ladies was not an easy one by any means, but we showed our mental strength throughout the game. I believe Golden Ladies will also be aiming to negate our attacking threats. We are prepared for the game and we are going to fight collectively to improve our chances in the encounter,” Esau stated.

In the same vein, Lelona Daweti believes The Brazilians will be looking to deliver an improved showing in their second game of the season.

“This game will provide us with an immediate opportunity to address several issues we experienced in the season opener. We are keen to display our usual ultra-attacking football philosophy which has seen us achieve so much. We aim to play to our strengths and maximise the opportunities that we create throughout the game,” Daweti expressed ahead of the tie.

Banyana Ba Style enjoyed a comfortable outing against their opponents last season, beating them 4-0 and 2-1 across both legs. Captain Zanele Nhlapho has urged the fans to flock out to support the team.

“It’s so good to welcome the supporters back to the stadium. It is always wonderful to see them donning the Yellow shirts and singing victory songs whenever we play. Our first game was a tight one, but we found a way to seal all three points. We are hoping to get back to our free-flowing best against our next opponents,” Captain Zanele declared confidently.

Ahead of the game, Coach Jerry Tshabalala has urged his team to brace up for a stern challenge on Sunday.

“The opening round of fixtures gave us an indication of how tight the league will be this season. Most of the teams in the league have strengthened their squad in key areas and they are looking formidable. There will be no easy games this time around because every team will be looking to get points off us. Nevertheless, I believe in my squad and we are ready for the fixture against Golden Ladies,” Coach Tshabalala expressed.

Mamelodi Sundowns clash against Golden Ladies on Sunday afternoon at TUT Pretoria Stadium. The kick-off time for the fixture is 11:30 am.
