Morena: We Are On The Right Track

Thapelo Morena has spoken about how important it is for us as the reigning Absa Premiership champions to stay among the title challengers ahead our game against log leaders Kaizer Chiefs this afternoon.

A win at Loftus Versfeld Stadium will push us to the top of the table, with one game in hand.

“For us throughout the whole week the most important game was the one against Highlands Park. The win put us on the right track behind Chiefs and going to that game now, everyone is positive,” the versatile player said.

Morena wants the team to take each game as it comes, but says it is crucial to stay with the chasing if we are to retain our championship.

“We know how it went in the Shell Helix Cup, and for us the target is to get the points. We just have to deliver on the day. This is a marathon and there are a lot of games that we are still going to play. What is important for us is to be among the challengers throughout the season – doing our level best to defend our title,” Morena said.

“We have had a busy week since last Sunday against AmaZulu in the cup and the heat also made it tough. But we pulled through. Then we played Highlands, a team that always runs and we scored very late in that to win. What is important is our recovery, and I think as a team we do that very well.”

Kick-off this afternoon is 3.30pm

I also love the log when we’re behind not on the top of the league cause when we’re chasing we’re ruthless but today we just need to win this one because we’re going to CAFCL soon we’ll be behind with games so let’s keep the spirit

  2. Hard luck Masandawana, We really could not finish properly. Can somebody tell me why our goalkeepers are waiting on the goal line instead of attacking the ball i would like to request our goalkeepers not to guard the goal line. both goals could have been attacked by the goalkeeper but i am happy with the game. Next time Masandawana.

Tough luck Masandawana but league it’s a marathon we will clinched it comes May we played good brand of football Just that Lucky was not on our side. KBY forever ?

  4. Ayanda

We could have played for 30 more with no goal, luck was not on our side, however that said Madisha plays well and the next thing he makes a costly school boy mistake, we loose. I do not understand why this Affonso is not starting ahead of those other pretenders who can’t score.Jali plays good football,Morena also,Lebusa also, kekana as well. Its not all lost Masandawana we lost a match not the league.

  5. Dalom

We really played well for the whole 90 minutes. For the team that played three games in seven days and still give such a wonderful performance and outplay Zebbies. Well done boyz, please don’t drop your heads. They beat us like we beat them last year with Maboe’s goal.

What I’ve realized in soccer is that you can’t win them all and the goals conceded through the opponents mistakes. Recently Madrid lost to the newly promoted Mallorca and Man City also lost to Norwich but look where they are at the moment.
What’s important is to win the league come May and I concur with Pitso that all games are worth three points not only the game of Chiefs, last time in January 2018 Pirates beat us at Loftus but We ended up winning the league, next time my Kby.

@Ayanda,I blame Ngcongca for da second goal,he should hv covered for Madisha, and again da referee failed to c da obstruction on our defender who was about to clear da ball, for me that was a foul

  8. Ayanda

Yes Lebusa was obstructed by Billiat you are correct, but it was still poor for Madisha to escort an attacker and allowe him to cross the ball whether or not there should have been a player to cover him.anyway hardy Dawana, we are still on ,both Telkom ,league and nedbank , surely the league is still for the taking.

coach Pitso has lost the plot. To me he seems to be in his highest comfort zone. players are selected on reputations, wrong tactics and the team is not playing convincingly given the type of arsenal in the team.

  10. billy

I don’t even see us making in CAF. It will remain a dream forever. The President must start thinking of Sundowns after Pitso

  11. billy

Andie Jali was the only player today playing for Sundowns others were in honeymoon together with their technical staff

good work for mdc coaches. Those boys are doing well though we know they won’t be given any chance by our coach. He will only be after supersport mdc players as he is obsessed with whatever is happening at supersport United.

  13. Well said Masandawana, the coach’s tactics were right because we created many chances and failed to convert. we could have won by a big margin if our conversion was right. @Billy nothing wrong with the technical team. cool down member i also watched MDC today and the boys need to be grilled seriously before they can play for first team so let us not put them under pressure. all the Zebras goals were our mistakes, the goalkeeper and defenders watched the ball and did not clear then the first goal was scored, the second the same. Andile had the chance to score, Morena, Sirino, Affonso, Meza, Villa , Madisha the list goes on and on. DON’T despair Members we are on track for this one. Ka bo Yellow i remain.

All Sundowns players were useless, Langerman and Morena were worse. Bias in consistent.
We need you blood, look how good is Mobbie at Stellenbosch fc. But our coach said he is not good for sundowns yet. Sundowns players doesn’t know how to score. As long we are still relying to the old crocs we will be still walloped.

    1. Member the two players you mentioning were playing very well, you cannot compare Morena with Mobbie right now. Mobbie needs 7 more years to match Morena. the fact that Morena created chances means he was playing well i even thought that the coach could have replaced Ngconca instead of Morena there was a gap when he left the field. Langerman was crossing those balls but our problem is that our players does not run into the opponents goal area and create those options, their goalkeeper was spilling the balls and nobody capitalized, Affonso ‘s ball was cleared off the line, not once but 2 times. our defense did not clear the ball and the zebras scored, the second ball Madisha who played so well yesterday did not mark Zuma from far and the zebras scored. we could have won by 8 goals but luck was not with us. Masandawana we 1 game behind and we will reduce the gap.

I’m very hurt after Downs lost so easy to Chiefs. The biggest mistake my team made was to rehires Kenneth Makganya. That guy is a sell out. We used to lose like this when he was still at the team before playing good football but failing to score. I have a doubt his is revealing team secret and holding us back. That man is a sellout. Jomo once fired Sinki Monisi for same reasons when playing Chiefs on a Coca Cola Cup he lost by five. After that he fired Sinki after discovering that Sinkr gave Chiefs all the team secrets. So Makhanya I don’t trust him.

Thank you you supporters, Most of the comments here shows maturity . That is football gentlemen and wonderful supporting women, this is the beautiful game, that will play with your emotions , that is the nature of the game. Anyone who blames the Sundowns team that played is just biased and the truth is not in him, we lost but Sundowns played their beautiful football, we just found an inform Chiefs Goalkeeper who silenced us. Chiefs were lucky and we must accept it now and move on. We all wished to see a better result but it was honestly not our day, that was an intensified match that would agitate emotions of whoever was directly involved . But look gentle people, after every storm the dust will soon settle and life goes on. The costly mistakes must also be accepted on our side, its part of the game, a league is a marathon , first quarter innovation is not the league, let others have a bite also, we are not competing for that but for the big one that will keep us in the Caf competition. We must be smart and accept what we can not change now, our future is not in the past. That same team can beat Chiefs with an unbelievable margin or can beat any other team without a response. Its a good sign and we must prepare ourselves as a team and supporters. No team in the PSL plans likely against Sundowns, it always feels good to beat champions and it is also true that it is painful to be beaten when you are a champion. These things happen. KBY

Laffor is still nursing an injury , since the operation he is still recovering . if it can be disturbed now it will be bad for him, even if he was fine by yesterday he would have not featured , yes those are the kind of players you are bound to remember on big days like that but lets accept it my fellow supporters, that team that played was fine, we just did not get the result we all anticipated. That is football, we can not win all the games and we can not lose all, thats our first league loss this season. Lets focus on our Telkom.

Lets admit it Masandawa, we need a goal keeper who wil challenge Onyango, Nweene and Peterse are not good enough, we can never win a catergory A game with this two guys.
