Mosimane: It’s A Long Way To The End

With Mamelodi Sundowns now through to the next phase of the CAF Champions League following a 5-2 aggregate win over AS Otoho of Congo Brazzaville on Saturday night, coach Pitso Mosimane has warned that there’s a long way to go.

The coach knows all too well the path of getting to the last hurdle of the continental showpiece having won the competition with Sundowns back in 2016 and also unfortunate to be eliminated in the semifinals in the most recent edition.

“We did what we had to do. We respected the emblem, especially in the first half and made sure the team had to go to the next round. That was important,” he said after his side overturned a 2-1 deficit from the first leg two weeks ago.

Downs have now advanced to the first round, and if they win that two-legged tie they will make it to the group stages of the Champions League.

“It is a long way to the end, it comes with different tactics and different opponents. It’s getting tougher than the game we played (on Saturday). I am not saying it was easy, but the resistance was not very big from the opponents, especially in the second half. And that is where we should have scored more goals. I was not happy with the second half. I was sitting down in the first half, but I didn’t in the second half because I don’t think my team played well,” Mosimane explained as he reflected on the match.

I was sitting down in the first half, but I didn’t in the second half because I don’t think my team played well,” Mosimane explained as he reflected on the match…..I totally agree with the Coach, they played possession football with no scores yet they were supposed to use that match to sharpen their shooting, having done so well first half with a fighting spirit, second half it was no longer there maybe the opponents had already accepted the defeat, but l saw our Goal keeper saving some dangerous counter balls. l still believe our team must improve the attack, they must learnt to score , shoot etc, I enjoy Kekana’s efforts , his intentions would be clear even if he misses the target most of the time, he rarely want to go in with ball inside the net.

I do agree with coach Pitso because we could have scored more goals in this CCL return leg.Our players took the foot off the pedal and they wanted to walk with the ball into the net. Look at teams like Aly Ahly or Zamalek, when the opposition is weak they reach double figures in terms of the goals they score. Surely we could have scored 7 or 8 in that match had we took our chances. Anyway good luck to the side going forward.

I don’t think the coach is fair on Andile Jali. He did well on Saturday and I was expecting him to start again. We should nt create the impression that there is favoritism in team.

Indeed favouritism looks the part of how the team is selected. Tokelo & Phakamani should lead our striking force so that we forget about the false number 9 thing. It is not creating goals as required. As for AJ always on the bench, only the coach can tell a different story that i think does not exist.

I tink we should have kept Mobie instead of loaning him now Morena is injured we only left with Ngcongca,Madisha is not gud at being a cover there, anyway gudluck for today’s game against Celtic.Kby forever

Nowadays Sundowns are playing with nine players almost every games,I don’t see the inclusion of Maboe and Vila in our games anymore those players must sit on the grandstand if our coach is selecting players on merit,Tade and others can do much better than the two especially Maboe .

Muzi am glad that at least someone shares the same view as mine. I mentioned this a while ago. Perhaps the signing of Tokelo combined with the pace of Phakamani shall do the trick if the coach was to go that route. The 2 players you mentioned have a long way still to prove their worth. Not bad players though but their delivery rate is below par.

It’s real &truthful that Pitso is not giving everybody a fair chance Vilalazi &Maboe in this false striker thing???No no no Pitso and I repeat again Vilalazi is so used to be selected that he thinks that there’s no need to pull his weight for the cause of Sundowns because no matter how awful &pathetic his performance,he’s going to finish the game anyway.Pitso people r not stupid we can differentiate between someone who is put in a wrong position&give his all but this issue of Vilalazi hayi hayi hayi.Unedolo ngoku Pitso kakhulu. Is Vilalazi automatically selected because he scored a great goal against Supersport? You r starting not to b a father figure now.Congratulatioms to you Pitso &the boys for a job well done Kaboyelo everywhere we go.Thanks again for a splendid performance and keeping our title hopes alive. We will suffocate Chiefs until they surrender that title or the umbrella to us,they would not feel easy to be with us breathing on their necks all the way.

I forsee a deadly combination. Phakamani and Tokelo. If our technical team can be able to get the 2 players to click and gel, Downs will be dangerous and unstoppable in attack.
