Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane praised his technical team, crediting them for the win over Bloemfontein Celtic in the Telkom Knockout at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday.
Mosimane missed the better part of preparations for the clash as he was in Morocco where he is doing his CAF Pro License at the invitation of the president of the Confederation of African Football, Ahmad Ahmad. But that didn’t affect the Sundowns’ machine as the club still managed to beat Celtic 1-0 to advance to the quarterfinals.
“I need to give credit to my technical team, they won us this game,” Mosimane said. “They prepared the team. Coach Manqoba Mngqithi and coach Wendell Robinson prepared the team. Our match analysts did very well. KB (Kabelo Rangoaga), the fitness trainer did well. It’s good to be surrounded by quality. I always boast about the technical team, that they’re the best technical team in Africa. I think they are. Local is lekker. Boys from the township. I like my bench. My bench represents the country.”
Mosimane landed at OR Tambo international airport a day before the match against Phunya Sele Sele after rubbing shoulders with some of the best football brains in the continent in his pursuit of the highest coaching qualification in the continent.
“It’s a different level,” Mosimane said. “This time it was a very difficult module for us. It was more on match analysis and presentation. To be honest, it was a job for a match analyst, not really for us as coaches. We’ve been spoilt because we’ve got those guys. But they said when you go and work in a club that doesn’t have a match analyst, you need to prepare and present. We were taken out of our comfort zone. It’s a Pro License, it’s the right one. It’s the highest level. But for me the biggest plus is mixing with the north Africans. This time around my brothers, Aliou Cisse and Florent Ibenge were not there. Cisse had a game with Senegal and Ibenge had a game with the Democratic Republic of Congo. It was tough, with a lot of hours.”
The Brazilians’ next assignment is a trip to Sisa Dukashe Stadium to take on Chippa United in the Absa Premiership.
