Mamelodi Sundowns players travelled to KwaZulu-Natal to join their Dinaledi F teammates selected for the DStv Compact Cup which is set to kick-off on Saturday.
With the squad announced and the fans choosing their starting eleven for the competition, Gift Motupa is amongst The Brazilians’ that will be in action at the Moses Mabhida Stadium this weekend. Motupa’s name is one that many supporters will be looking forward to seeing after the striker’s presence in the DStv Premiership was short-lived due to an injury that kept him out for time out.
“Firstly I would love to thank the supporters for voting for us. It will be very interesting to be in this Cup, I am looking forward to seeing the other players and trying new combinations on the field of play.” Motupa expressed his thoughts about his selection in the tournament.
He also mentioned the benefits of participating in the viewer’s choice competition and what his goals are: “It will be good for match fitness, I am looking forward to scoring goals and winning the trophy.”
With players coming from different teams that apply different philosophies and styles of play, the 27-year-old Limpopo born star is not concerned over these factors. For the first time in South Africa, players of different teams, including rivals, will merge to form a solid squad and work together in the hope of winning R1 Million Cash Price.
“We’ve played together in development areas and others we’ve played together in the National team.”
The first semi-final is a battle between Coastal United and Dinaledi FC at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, kick off is 15:00. All matches will be televised LIVE on SuperSport PSL channel 202.
