Midfielder Oratile Mokwena has backed Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies to get back to winning ways after Saturday’s 1-1 draw in the Tshwane Derby against TUT Ladies.
The Brazilians grabbed the game’s opener through Refilwe Tholakele for her fourth goal of the season. The opponents scored a second-half equalizer, as both teams settled for a share of the spoils in a highly entertaining encounter.
Oratile Mokwena, who captained the team, believes they are far from happy with the results but will aim to make amends as quickly as possible.
“We have to admit that we did not finish off the chances that we created. Our performance was strong, but we need to be more clinical in front of goal. We know we have the quality and determination to bounce back and get the results we desire. Our focus now is on improving our finishing and maintaining our high level of play in the upcoming matches,” Mokwena stated.
Refilwe Tholakele has now scored four goals, tying with Andisiwe Mgcoyi on the Sundowns Ladies’ scoring chart. Nthabiseng Majiya and Boitumelo Rabale still lead the way with eight goals each. Miche Minnies has seven goals to her name. Salome Kekana, Lebohang Ramalepe, and Asanda Hadebe have all scored three goals. Chuene Morifi, Regina Mogolola, Rhoda Mulaudzi, and Zanele Nhlapho have scored twice each. Cimone Sauls, Kholosa Biyana, Melinda Kgadiete, Malebogo Shawe, Bambanani Mbane, Lehlogonolo Mashigo, Khunjulwa Mali, and Karabo Dhlamini have all scored once.
Up next for Sundowns Ladies is a clash against Durban Ladies on the 15th of June at the King Zwelithini Stadium, kicking off at 13:00.
Hope our coach Rhulani saw today how Hugo utilised our players, they’re attacking non stop not this thing of ours with too many backpasses, the game was enjoyable hope next season we will see a better offensive Downs even Ronwen was not boring with his short passes.
Well said member,i once said Rulani is weakening our team with his style of play,i said judging from the body language our players are not enjoying how they are expected to play hence we always receive more cards than the opponent. I was very angry with this Rulani coach when i saw how our players have freedom of expression under Broos.Bafana held superstars of Nigeria in Nageria with 70% of players coming from us.Zwane played and ran like a teenager last,he never showed any sign of fatigue,he score more goals for Bafana in less than 10 games than he did for us in more than 40 games. This says to management, you have put the wrong person at the helm of the team.Williams spend little time with Broos and more time with Mokwena but the bond and freedom he has with Broos is way bigger than that of Mokwena.Bafana had 63 % ball possession,12 corners ,18 shoots at goals,8 on target and less fouls committed, that is what we call dominance, not Mokwena’s nonsense dominance.
