Red-hot Brazilians Prepare for Richmond United Test

Fresh off their 7-0 victory against Lindelani Ladies in their previous game, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies are gearing up for their 7th match of the Hollywoodbets Super League season against Richmond United.

The Brazilians were clinical in front of goal last time, with Miche Minnies netting an impressive hat-trick, complemented by a brace from Boitumelo Rabale, a goal from Salome Kekana and an own goal from the opponents.

Miche discussed the atmosphere in camp following the significant win, which also marked the return of Rhoda Mulaudzi and Lelona Daweti from their respective long-term injuries.

“The atmosphere in camp is positive, with everyone feeling energized after the big win. We dominated both ends of the pitch in that game. With Rhoda and Lelona back, their presence has lifted our spirits. It is a great opportunity for them to boost our chances as we prepare for a busy season ahead.”

Despite securing victories in their last six encounters against the Northern Cape side, the in-form striker emphasized that no game should be taken lightly.

“We are not underestimating them at all. We are preparing for them just as we would for any other team, recognizing the challenges of away fixtures. As a team, we are focused on getting all three points, and we are putting in the hard work to leave no stone unturned,” Minnies added.

Banyana Ba Style has enjoyed a strong record against Richmond United in recent meetings. Last season, the Brazilians secured a 1-0 victory in the first league game and a 3-1 win away. In the previous season, the Tshwane giants celebrated a 5-0 home win and a 4-2 triumph in the away fixture. Two seasons ago, Sundowns Ladies registered a 5-1 win at home and a 5-2 victory away.

Despite this dominance, Karabo Makhurubetshi stressed the team’s commitment to avoiding complacency.

“We recognize our past performances, but those numbers do not play the game; we do. So, we are putting in the work during training to ensure we don’t get disappointed. Every tackle needs to be spot-on to maintain a clean sheet and our forwards need to be ruthless in front of goal to secure maximum points, as goals are crucial for our success,” Karabo stated.

Makhurubetshi also expressed her delight at the return of Rhoda Mulaudzi and Lelona Daweti to the squad, remarking, “I am happy to see them back. Their presence brings healthy competition, and we are eager to see them contribute goals to help the team maintain its winning momentum.”

The match between Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and Richmond United is set to take place on Saturday, April 20th, at De Aar Merino Park Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 15:00.
