With the third edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League just around the corner, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies have hit their stride in the Hollywoodbets Super League at the perfect time.
In what has been a flawless October to remember, Banyana Ba Style has delivered several attacking masterclasses, registering 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1 victories against City Lads, Durban Ladies and most recently JVW FC. During this period, the Brazilians have conceded just once.
The Brazilians are back in action this Wednesday against relegation-threatened Coal City Wizards at the Lucas Moripe Stadium. Nonhlanhla Mthandi believes everyone within the team is well-prepared to avoid any surprises against Coal City.
“The coaches have been very vocal and have encouraged us to work hard to produce more positive results. We are not underestimating our opponents just because we have been achieving high-scoring results in recent times. We are taking the game seriously and we have reset our mentality after our success in the COSAFA tournament. Everyone is eager to build on that momentum and we aim to maintain this level of consistency. Our focus is on the bigger picture, which includes thorough preparation for the CAF Women’s Champions League and reclaiming the title,” Mthandi stated.
Coal City Wizards are currently placed 15th in the 16-team Hollywoodbets Super League table and have the worst defense in the league, having conceded 83 goals. Despite this, the Mpumalanga-based side has secured some eye-catching victories this season, including a massive 2-1 win against TUT FC in April.
Melinda Kgadiete believes that such significant results indicate that there are no more straightforward games in the league. She stated, “There are no easy fixtures in this league anymore; all games are tough and Coal City has improved a lot. They are a constant threat to play against and we are not going to take them lightly. On our end, preparations have been good, and we have been in good form. I believe we are going to give our best as usual to avoid any surprises.”
Sundowns Ladies have dominated fixtures against the Wizards in recent times. Earlier this season, Downs registered a 9-0 victory in Mpumalanga. Last campaign, Banyana Ba Style also secured another 9-0 victory and a 7-0 victory on away territory. The season before that, Masandawana prevailed with a 5-0 victory on away soil and a 2-0 victory at home. Incredibly, Boitumelo Rabale has scored three consecutive hat-tricks against Wednesday’s opponents.
The game between Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and Coal City Wizards will take place on Wednesday, October 18th, at the Lucas Moripe Stadium, with kick-off set for 15h00.
