Sammy Seabi, who was a new addition to the Mamelodi Sundowns team at the start of the 2019/20 season, has spoken about finding his feet at Chloorkop and his first-ever CAF Champions League experience.
Although he did not play, the central midfielder got to make a memorable trip to Morocco as a learning experience with his teammates and now hopes to play a part in the future with Masandawana keen to consistently feature in the inter-continental competition.
“It was a very good feeling to be part of the team because it was my first time. I had never played CAF and for me being part of the team was great,” says the lanky midfielder.
“I appreciate the opportunity (to travel to with the squad) and believe I will help the team to achieve more and more. I must also add that the atmosphere there was super, so it was really a great feeling, I must say. And I can’t wait to feature.”
The over 1.7m tall former Polokwane City man admits that with competition in his favourite position, he has steadily been working his way to breaking into the team.
“One thing about me is that I am a patient person. It hasn’t been so long since I joined the team and I was still fitting in,” Seabi explains.
“But so far so good. I know my time will come very soon. I just need to put more effort. My target now is to help the team fully to reach our goals and to win the league as well as the other cup competitions.”
Sundowns are only just four points behind log leaders Kaizer Chiefs in the Absa Premiership and have a game in hand. The hope is that, when football resumes, Masandawana can fight to retain their title, and Seabi can be a proud champion in his debut season.
