Six players from Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies — Andile Dlamini, Karabo Dhlamini, Lebogang Ramalepe, Tiisetso Makhubela, Bambanani Mbane and Melinda Kgadiete — have been selected to be part of the final 23-woman squad representing Banyana Banyana in the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
Unlike her teammates who participated in the 2019 edition hosted by France, this will be Kgadiete’s debut appearance at the global showpiece.
The South Africa women’s team has been in camp for the last two weeks, concluding their preparations for the prestigious women’s tournament following the announcement of Coach Desiree Ellis’ preliminary squad.
Banyana Banyana will enter next month’s tournament as the reigning African champions, marking their second consecutive appearance in the FIFA Women’s World Cup after their debut in France in 2019.
Coach Desiree’s side has been drawn in a mouthwatering Group G alongside Sweden, Italy and Argentina.
The reigning African Champions open their tournament against the Swedes on 23 July at the Wellington Regional Stadium before playing Argentina on 28 July, with their last group match against Italy taking place on 2 August.
The team has scheduled a preparatory friendly against Costa Rica, which will take place on July 15th in New Zealand.
The upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup is scheduled to take place from July 20 to August 20, 2023.
