Sundowns Ladies aiming for glory on National Women’s Day as they face Double Action Ladies

Fresh off from their 8-1 demolition of Mozambique’s Costa Do Sol, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies will be gunning for more glory when they face Double Action Ladies from Botswana on 9 August which is National Women’s Day in South Africa.

Ahead of the fixture against Double Action, Coach Agnes ‘Madala’ Nkosi who is in line to lead the team is hoping for a solid result to celebrate National Women’s Day.

“As South Africans, this day means so much because it helps us to celebrate the strength and resilience of women and their contribution to society and country. It is an opportunity to pay tribute to the generations of women whose struggles have laid the foundations for the progress made in empowering women in all walks of life today. We hope to mark this special day with a resounding win.”

Despite being tipped as favorites for the clash, Coach Nkosi is anticipating a tough encounter, “The game of football is becoming increasingly unpredictable. We have seen how the women’s game is constantly evolving with various African nations investing heavily in the sport. Thus, we are anticipating a tough battle from Double Action Ladies because they are hungry for success as well. Although we scored eight goals in our first game, there is a need to work hard to avoid any upsets. We are hoping to stick to our game plan and the players are aware of what is required of them.”

Last year during the competition, Sundowns Ladies hit Double Action Ladies for six with Melinda Kgadiete bagging an impressive hat trick. Andisiwe Mgcoyi, Zanele Nhlapho, and Lelona Daweti were also among the goals.

On last year’s result, Coach Nkosi stated that “A whole lot has happened between last year and now. We showed our class when we clashed against them last time, but as I said earlier, the game of football is not cast in stone. These days, results can slip off your fingers if you fail to prepare. We are treating the game seriously and we hope to avoid any upsets. Last year’s result is gone and that will not play in our minds as we face them,” Coach Agnes concluded.

The clash between Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and Double Action Ladies will take place on Tuesday at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium. The kick-off time for the fixture is 12h00.
