The reigning African champions find themselves in Group G, where they will face formidable opponents such as Sweden, Argentina and Italy.

In preparation for the upcoming global showpiece, Bambanani Mbane played a significant role as part of the starting XI in Banyana Banyana’s final World Cup preparation match against Costa Rica.

The reigning African champions secured a convincing 2-0 victory, with Thembi Kgatlana scoring a fine goal and Hildah Magaia delivering a spectacular free-kick. Tiisetso Makhubela and Melinda Kgadiete also featured in the game, contributing to South Africa’s strong finish.

Recently, it was announced that Coach Desiree Ellis’ troops will face the top-ranked U.S. women’s national team in two matches scheduled for September 2023. The first match will take place in Cincinnati at TQL Stadium on 21 September 2023, followed by a second encounter in Chicago at Soldier Field on 24 September 2023.

Both teams will be arriving from their participation in the FIFA Women’s World Cup held in Australia and New Zealand when they clash in September. The United States, with nine previous appearances, brings a wealth of experience to the tournament, while South Africa will be making their second appearance on the global stage.

The World Cup kicks off on 20 July and Banyana’s first match is on 23 July against Sweden.

We extend our warmest wishes to Sundowns Ladies, as well as the entire Banyana Banyana team, as they prepare to compete in the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup.
