Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies continued their impressive start to the COSAFA Women’s Champions League Qualifier with another commanding performance in Botswana, securing a 4–1 victory over Mozambique’s Costa do Sol in their third and final Group B fixture.
The Brazilians wasted little time asserting their dominance, with Asanda Hadebe opening the scoring in the 7th minute. Wendy Shongwe then doubled the advantage in the 19th minute, marking her first goal for the Club and giving Sundowns a 2–0 lead.
Ronnel Donnelly added a third in the 36th minute as Banyana Ba Style continued to control the contest and went into the half-time break with a comfortable advantage.
Costa do Sol pulled a goal back in the 59th minute, but Sundowns responded by maintaining their composure and continuing to control the match. The Brazilians eventually restored their three-goal advantage when Melinda Kgadiete found the back of the net in the 81st minute, sealing a 4–1 victory.
The result means Sundowns Ladies have now won all three of their Group B matches, maintaining their perfect record and continuing their impressive goalscoring form. The Brazilians have scored 14 goals and have conceded just once all tournament.
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Oratile Mokwena praised the squad’s ability to maintain its high standards despite the changes, while also expressing satisfaction with her own contribution after receiving an opportunity to play.
“I think the overall performance of the team was great, considering that our team was heavily rotated. We managed to maintain the high-scoring margin. My performance was good, taking into consideration that I have not been playing that much. Though I do believe there is more that I can still give and I know that with more opportunities, I can continue improving and contributing to the team.”
For Shongwe, the victory was made even more special by scoring her first goal in Masandawana colours.
“I am so happy that we won and I scored my first goal for the Club. It feels really good to get my first goal and to contribute to the team’s performance. We have been working hard as a group, and I am grateful for the opportunity to play and help the team. We just have to stay focused, take it one game at a time and continue working hard.”
Sundowns Ladies will next face Gaborone United Ladies in the semi-final on Thursday 27 August 2026.
