Sundowns Ladies end Hollywoodbets Super League campaign on a high

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies wrapped up the Hollywoodbets Super League season with a come-from-behind 4-2 victory over Richmond United Ladies in their final match of the season on Saturday. Banyana Ba Style has now clinched the league title for the third consecutive campaign.

Goals from Salome Kekana, Lelona Daweti, Melinda Kgadiete and Lehlogonolo Mashigo ensured the Chloorkop side finished with an impressive 27 wins out of 30 games played.

Sedilame Bosija retained her place in goal while Karabo Makhurubetshi, Tiisetso Makhubela, Salome Kekana and Khutso Pila anchored the defense line. Boitumelo Rabale, Oratile Mokwena and Lelona Daweti started in midfield while Lehlogonolo Mashigo was thrust into a more attacking responsibility alongside Miche Minnies and Thembelihle Masibi.

The hosts stormed into an early lead but were pegged back by Salome Kekana’s strike, the 6th goal of her debut season with Masandawana. Richmond United then grabbed the lead in the first-half additional time as the home side went into the break 2-1 up.

After the restart, Daweti conjured up a moment of magic thanks to an audacious strike from the edge of the penalty area to level matters.

Melinda Kgadiete and Lehlogonolo Mashigo found the back of the net late on, as Banyana Ba Style secured a stunning 4-2 comeback win over Richmond United, to finish the season on a positive note.

At the end of the game, Sundowns Ladies were presented with the Hollywoodbets Super League trophy amidst the jubilations of the players, coaches and technical team.

“Yes, officially we have clinched the Hollywoodbets Super League title after a very long season. To be champions for three years in a row means we are doing the right things and we are always grateful to the Hollywoodbets Super League for the overall organization of the league. Although we would have loved to retain the titles we won last season, we can’t complain because we still have something to be cheerful about. We plan to go back to the drawing board, evaluate ourselves and design ways to address issues that we encountered this season.

Coach Jerry also praised several stand-out players who stepped up their game throughout the campaign.

“I am happy with the way my players have excelled in our football philosophy and their maturity has been incredible. We saw how Lelona Daweti dazzled in various positions and how the young Khutso Pila showed her class whenever she was called upon. These are just a few examples of how several players within the team have improved.

In his closing remarks, Kappa praised several key figures within the club, “On behalf of my players and the technical team, I am very grateful to the Chairman of the Club for all the efforts and support he has given us. We are also grateful to the management, staff and everyone associated with the Yellow Nation Family. We are immensely grateful.”
