Sundowns Ladies gear up for the mouthwatering table-topping clash against UWC

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies will aim to continue their rich vein of form as they square off against the table-topping University of the Western Cape (UWC) at the Tuks Main Stadium on Sunday.

Only two points separate the teams after 12 games played, making Sunday’s clash crucial. The winner will not only secure three points but also gain early-season bragging rights in the fiercely contested battle for the Hollywoodbets Super League.

Banyana Ba Style enters this highly anticipated fixture, following their comprehensive 9-0 victory over Coal City Wizards in Emalahleni, a result which extended their winning streak to four straight games.

Ahead of the upcoming clash, Lerato Kgasago emphasized the significance of securing a victory in what is already regarded as one of the marquee fixtures on the league’s calendar.

“It is crucial to acknowledge the significance of every game, but there is no denying that this particular match is a highly anticipated top-of-the-table clash. While we approach each fixture with utmost seriousness, we are well aware of the expectation surrounding this match. Our team has been diligently preparing, leaving no stone unturned, as we aim to secure maximum points. Emerging victorious is at the forefront of our agenda, and we are determined to deliver a strong performance on the day,” the attacking midfielder stated.

Regina Mogolola also believes that Sundowns Ladies will need to be at their best to prevent any unexpected results.

“They are a ball-playing team that has exhibited remarkable consistency throughout the season. As we approach this game, every member of our team fully understands the magnitude of the task on Sunday. From a tactical perspective, they possess tremendous energy on the field and consistently execute effective counter-pressing strategies. We are fully aware of their strengths and are ready to face them head-on,” Regina stated.

Recent encounters between Sundowns Ladies and UWC have consistently been closely contested. In the previous season, the Cape Town-based side managed to secure a 2-0 victory over Sundowns Ladies. However, in the reverse fixture, both teams played to a hard-fought 1-1 draw. Two seasons ago, Banyana Ba Style emerged victorious with narrow 1-0 wins in both the home and away matches.

The highly anticipated match between Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and UWC will take place on Sunday, May 14th, at the Tuks Stadium. The kick-off time is 15h00 and the match will be broadcast live on SABC 1.
