Sundowns Ladies geared up for Wadi Degla clash

Holders Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies will be aiming to seal their place in the semi-final of the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League as they square off against Egypt’s Wadi Degla in their second fixture of Group B.

The Brazilians enjoyed a 2-1 victory over Nigeria’s Bayelsa Queens in their opening Group B clash on Monday thanks to a brace from Lelona Daweti.

In the aftermath of the game, Coach Jerry ‘Kappa’ Tshabalala praised his team for their resilience against the debutants.

“It was not an easy match for us because games against Nigerian teams are not easy due to their unbelievable stamina. Although we had limited information from them before the game, we stood our ground and got the result that we wanted. Kudos must go to the players for sticking to the game plan and finding the back of the net when it mattered the most. It is always good to start a tournament like this with a victory. Mentally, we are ready for our next opponents,” Kappa stated.

Ahead of the match against Egypt’s Wadi Degla, Coach Jerry believes his side will need to be clinical in front of the goal.

“We know they will be eager for maximum points considering that they lost their opening game to TP Mazembe. Therefore, we need to dominate possession in the key areas and finish off our chances. This game will require us to constantly press across the pitch because they are a very fit side. We plan to leave everything on the pitch because we are on a mission to defend our title. To become champions again, we will be tested across all fronts; therefore, our next task is to prevail in the battle against the Egyptian champions,” Kappa concluded.

With the opening Group B defeat to TP Mazembe, Wadi Degla has now failed to win their last three games at the continent’s premier women’s tournament (D1 L2). They had lost their second group game against Malabo Kings and drew their final group game in 2021 against Hasaacas Ladies.

The match between Sundowns Ladies and Egypt’s Wadi Degla will take place on Thursday, the 3rd of November, at Stade de Marrakech. The kick-off time for the fixture is 18h00 (SAST).

Wish you all the best this evening. Lets go out there and punish them to qualify for the semis. They are a good side but defensively they are not so good we can capitilize on that. I wish we could use Rhoda in her prefered position of a striker where she can give us goals on the wing she is not so effective, Rhoda is a natural goal scorer. Wish to see Oratile Mokwena with Thalea in the middle. Nonhlanhla Mthandi is robust and is already she got a yellow in the first match, However, these are just my opinion I trust our technical team will field the strongest first 11 to ensure that we punish early on and book a place in the semis. All the Best LADIES
