Sundowns Ladies Maintain Unbeaten Start to the Season with Draw Against Copperbelt

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies maintained their unbeaten run in the 2025 Hollywoodbets Super League with a 0-0 draw against Copperbelt Ladies at Seshego Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The match saw Sundowns assert their attacking dominance early on. Karabo Dhlamini came close to scoring in the 19th minute with a well-struck shot that was wellsaved by the Copperbelt goalkeeper.

Nonhlanhla Mthandi followed suit in the 34th minute, cutting inside and firing a powerful shot just wide of the target. In the 40th minute, Boitumelo Rabale had a chance from a free kick, but her attempt went over the bar, leaving the score level at halftime.

In the second half, the Brazilians continued to press for a goal, with Nthabiseng Majiya having a goal ruled out for offside in the 62nd minute. Despite numerous attacks and continued pressure, Copperbelts defense held firm and the match ended with both teams sharing the spoils.

After the match, forward Karabo Dhlamini spoke candidly about the result.

“It was a tough one. We did well as a team and it is frustrating not to come away with the three points. We created several good chances and controlled large parts of the game, but we just could not finish them off. It is something we will need to work on because we are a team that thrives on scoring goals. Despite the result, we know that we need to remain focused, keep working hard, and trust that the goals will come in our next match.

Defender Lehlogonolo Mashigo also reflected on the game, emphasizing the teams efforts while acknowledging the areas for improvement.

We had several moments where we could have taken the lead, but we did not capitalize on them. We need to put our heads down, stay focused, and continue working hard. We know we are capable of so much more, and we can use this game as motivation to do better. There are things we can work on, but I believe in this team and we will keep pushing ourselves to improve and get better.

Despite the draw, Sundowns Ladies’ defensive record remains a bright spot, with the team still yet to concede a goal this season. Their unbeaten streak stays intact, and they will be determined to return to winning ways in their next outing.

Looking ahead, Sundowns Ladies will travel to Isaac Wolfson Stadium to face City Lads on Wednesday, April 30, at 15:00.
