Sundowns Ladies makes winning return to Hollywoodbets Super League action

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies returned to winning ways thanks to an emphatic 7-0 victory over Coal City Wizards in the latest round of the Hollywoodbets Super League.

A first-half hat-trick from Boitumelo ‘Queen’ Rabale coupled with strikes from Miche Minnies, Lehlogonolo Mashigo, Andisiwe Mgcoyi and Melinda Kgadiete handed Banyana Ba Style another massive victory against their opponents at the Puma Stadium in Mpumalanga.

Asa Rabalao was handed the starting berth in goal, while Regina Mogolola, Khutso Pila, Tiisetso Makhubela and Gabonnelwe Kekana began in defense. Lehlogonolo Mashigo, Chantelle Esau and Oratile Mokwena started in midfield while Boitumelo Rabale was flanked by Miche Minnes and Thembelihle Masibi in a three-pronged attack.

The Brazilians began the game on the front foot with Boitumelo Rabale opening the scoring in the 29th minute. Queen who was named in the Best XI of this year’s CAF Women’s Champions League doubled her tally in the 35th minute and sealed her treble in the 45th minute as the league champions stamped their authority in a dominant first half.

After the break, Andisiwe Mgcoyi and Nonhlanhla Mthandi were brought in to replace Chantelle Esau and Thembelihle Masibi.

Sundowns Ladies continued to apply the pressure and were duly rewarded with quick-fire strikes from Miche Minnies and Lehlogonolo Mashigo. Coach Jerry Tshabalala further rang in the changes as Thalea Smidt, Lelona Daweti and Melinda Kgadiete were introduced in place of Oratile Mokwena, Thembelihle Masibi and Boitumelo Rabale.

Substitutes Mgcoyi and Kgadiete found the back of the net late on as Coach Jerry’s troops finished a league game with 7 goals or more for the 7th time this season.

Young defender, Khutso Pila was pleased with the team’s perfect response after the CAF Women’s Champions League final disappointment.

“I am very happy with the way we played today after the setback we suffered in Morocco. The entire team was gunning for a perfect response, and we achieved that in spectacular style. On a personal note, I am happy with my development thanks to the veterans within the team. There were several lessons gained during the CAF Women’s Champions League and I will be aiming to further develop my game in every area to contribute to the success of the team,” Pila stated.

The win means Sundowns Ladies have now amassed 76 points, with 25 wins in 28 games, scoring 119 goals and conceding just 11 times. Banyana Ba Style has also achieved a mammoth goal difference of +108.

On the Sundowns goal-scoring charts, Boitumelo Rabale has now scored 24 goals, four more than Miche Minnies who is on 20 strikes. Andisiwe Mgcoyi has scored 12 times, Melinda Kgadiete has scored 10 goals and Rhoda Mulaudzi has 8 goals to her name.
