Sundowns Ladies Return to Action with Big Clash Against UWC

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies are set to return to Hollywoodbets Super League action this Sunday with a highly anticipated clash against the University of the Western Cape (UWC) Ladies. The encounter marks their 14th match of the campaign, and the reigning Champions will be looking to maintain their incredible record, having already secured ten victories and one draw this season.

After a month-long break from competitive fixtures, the Sundowns camp is buzzing with anticipation and renewed energy. Midfielder Kholosa Biyana shared insight into the mood within the squad, describing the atmosphere as positive and full of excitement.

“It has been a very positive environment. The players are excited that the league is finally coming back because it has been quite a while since we last played a competitive match. We are also happy to have our international players back in camp. Some of them participated in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), and we are looking forward to reintegrating them into the team. They will bring valuable experience and momentum from the continental stage, which will strengthen the squad as we continue our title defence.”

Looking ahead to the match against UWC, Biyana emphasized the importance of starting strong, especially given the tight race on the league table.

“It is always a tight and exciting encounter when we face UWC. But beyond the rivalry, every game from now on is critical. The table is closely contested, and we must ensure that we perform well from the very beginning. Since we have not played in a while, we must come out strong and sharp.”

Newly promoted youngster to the senior Ladies team, Munashe Mugwara, echoed similar sentiments.

“The mood within the team has been extremely positive. The energy and intensity at training have been high, and the players are showing a great deal of hunger and determination. When you have not played in over a month, this kind of attitude is not only expected—it is necessary. The players are more than ready to return to the pitch and give their best performance.”

Highlighting the significance of the fixture, Mugwara stressed that matches against rival teams such as UWC carry added weight, regardless of the current points gap.

“This is an important fixture because we are facing a direct rival. Even though we are currently ahead of them on the log, this is not a game we can afford to take lightly. It is a must-win match, and the players are fully aware of what is at stake. We need to assert our dominance and secure the result.”

The game between Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and UWC Ladies will take place on Sunday, 3rd August 2025, at UWC Stadium in Cape Town, with a kick-off time of 15:00.
